I've got to say that I really don't get the school of thought that the league cup means nothing, particularly as we've won fuck all in 20 years. I'm sure the players would all be very happy to win it.
There are so many little positives that go along with the cup though.
Winning the league cup would give the players a massive confidence boost and drive to go for other cups.
It also increases the profile of the club and gets us in the news a bit more which is good for PR and sponsors.
Often if clubs are lucky they'll get a relatively easy draw through the cup run that gives the club a chance to rest players and/or play some of the youngsters.
Winning it would also show potential players that we're on the up and may sway the decision to join us.
In cup competitions the draw is the most important thing, the aspect of chance plays a massive part. If you want to see a fluky run look at our run in the CL, we absolutely robbed City (with the refs help) and I still have no fucking idea what we done to Ajax. Both those results were not by design.
Our draw in the LC has been very kind to us, I don't think we will beat City so the argument will become pointless. Again I have no real hate for Jose, if I am being honest I still cant help but like him, so chill out on the boring and pathetic please. If you have been pleased with our performances this season fair play to you, I think some have been close to absolute cowardice, not all on Jose mind you but he is the manager.
The League Cup always seems to do this to people...
A trophy is a trophy
is a trophy!
I don't care a Nun's rancid gash if 'modern football' is somehow 'above' the League Cup...
to listen to some of the contempt it creates, you'd think that winning it was apparently worse than not winning it!!
As for 'fluking' a trophy... if that was the case, then we had the 2019 CL win written all over us! ...and yet we didn't, 'cos Liverpool did... did they fluke the SF win over Barcelona after being 3/4-0 down (or whatever it was!) No, only
we fluked it against Ajax, 'cos it was 'only little Tinpot part-timers Ajax, who happened to b 3-0 up with 40minutes to go in a 2 legged tie at
home.... maybe it was 'cos 'only' Lucas Moura got us through that night, and not Salah or Firminio, or gurning in-need-of anger management Klopp!
We didn't fluke our way to the CL 'cos we didn't win it... we got lucky on some decisions against City, but we fully deserved to get to the Final due to an absolutely heroic, herculean effort in the SF....
...but back to the League cup... or
any domestic cup... if it's only luck of the draw that gets you through, then why are there Cup Upsets?? surely
any team who gets a lucky draw against a lower league team, would get through,... and the final would always be contested by the Top 2 in the PL each year... seeing as everyone else of the 90 clubs below them would be seen a s a 'lesser' draw, no?
