Everyone on here is surely so happy that we won last night. The last 30 mins were so unbearably tense and for once the footballing gods were kind to us. However let’s not pretend that Postecoglou walks on water. Obviously there is humour in your post but calling people clowns who were rightfully questioning Ange this season is a bit daft. Let’s hope that if he stays next season that 7 or 8 games in you can continue to be smug and are not the one shown to be a clown. Time will tell
👍

Whether you like it or not, Woolwich are still seen as a force in European football (particularly after beating Real M. in both CL games), while Spurs - even after winning the EL - is not seen as an top European club. That's a fact right now.

A what? Excuse me 😂

They've won fuck all in Europe, West Ham have a higher pedigree than them ffs.

But you weren't tagged into this post lol

It was much more of an achievement to bring Spurs to the CL final in 2019 even if they lost (against a prime Liverpool team) than winning the EL (or any domestic cup).
If winning the EL didn't include getting a spot in the CL it would not have been valued as much as it was. And UEFA had to include that CL-spot price for clubs to take the competition serious.
Losing 21 EPL such a pathetic way is not the sign of a winning team culture to be honest. But that's me.
That's Woolwich mentality right there.

Runner up is first loser.

It's always better to win a cup (any cup) over losing in a final or winning the top four trophy.
We did that for the best part of a decade and were still regarded as the meme club.

Our season has been better than Woolwich's. We both qualified for CL and we won a trophy they didn't. Full stop. End of chat.

Its not a loser mentality, its objectivity.

To get to the final of the CL is extremely difficult. Teams who have won the europa league recently include Frankfurt, Sevilla, Villareal, this level of United side. You don't have to be elite to win it, you don't have to be even close. To win the CL you have to be elite, one of the very top teams in Europe. To get there we beat Manchester City, Dortmund and an amazing Ajax side after navigating Inter and Barca in a groups. It was by far a bigger achievement. Teams who win the EL don't even get out of CL groups- regularly.

Not sure in what world recognising that the elite competition is by a huge magnitude much more difficult equates to a loser mentality. I assume Chelsea winning the conference league will be a bigger achievement than us reaching a champions league final too.
I loved the journey, and the journey was impressive (and will never forget Amsterdam), but winning last night was objectively better and more impressive than losing to Liverpool.

CL is a real competition compared to EL. I agree with you. EL is lower grade comp than even english league cup (because you eventually play real prem heavyweights). 2019 was a much bigger footballing achievement than the EL cup we won yesterday, no question about it.

Glad everyone is having good time, but they shouldn’t get carried away, and should try to maintain some perspective.

Champions of Europe? Champions of Europe Junior League is what it really is. I don’t think we beat a single CL team all season.

No, it wasnt - not in a single football followers eyes other than some very weird spurs fans.

No other football fan was jealous of us getting to and losing a CL final and had Woolwich gotten to the CL final this season and lost and we won the Europa in no way would I think they achieved more than us.

nice to know you think they would have!

Lol of course it wasn't. Any one of the teams we beat in the CL journey would absolutely fucking fist this team, stop being ridiculous.

It's a dramatically lower quality of competition, we played 16th in the final. Stop making it out to be something it wasn't. It was an amazing opportunity that the team navigated admirably. It wasn't some huge, groundbreaking accomplishment, it was beating 16th in the premier league in a final.

This is what I said would happen pre-game - bigging this up in order to justify keeping Ange on. You can be absolutely delighted to win this cup without making it something it isn't, but as expected all some people are interested in is acting like we just beat prime Madrid.

Its objectively better to win the competition than not to win another - but that does not make it more "impressive" in reality. The mental gymnastics to believe that beating AZ, Frankfurt, Bodo and United is a harder task than Dortmund, a 100 point City side, Ajax and then losing to a 98 point Liverpool side is absolutely mental.

The CL final is by a distant margin the most impressive thing this club has achieved in ages. Followed by that 86 point season.

Ask any top player if they rather would like to win the League cup or be a loser in the CL final.... Or ask any club with ambition what they prefer.
It's not a loser mentality to prefer to lose a CL over winning a 2nd or 3rd class competition.
Would you rather see your national team win a WC qualifying group over being a lose in a WC final?

Whether we like it or not but coming 2nd in the EPL and reaching the CL semis does make a club a European top club. That's the objective truth.

Oh my bad I always thought top clubs were judged on winning stuff, my bad.

Do you think anyone would respect Real if they finished CL runners up 15 times and constantly failed at the last hurdle, do you think anyone would still look at them as a European giant or a top European side?

What the fuck are we even doing here? 😖

Great win, huge for the club to get the monkey off its back, but I don't want him here next season nor believe in him as a coach long term. That is my opinion. I am aware other people disagree and will be caught up in the emotions of last night and that is fine.

For me, nothing changed in that game in terms of his future. That wasn't an amazingly coached team to be excited about for the future, it was a side putting in a one off defensive performance and fighting for its life against another side who severely lacked quality. Ange can have credit for inspiring that but if/when we stick with him I expect it to end in tears.

Yes but when do we break ground on his statue? :D

Son disagrees with you.

Sorry but plenty of fans were jealous of the miracle of Amsterdam and us getting to the CL final

How could they not be?

I remember Rio jumping up and down with Glenn in the commentary box at the final whistle

I am friendly with a mixture of Spammers, Goons and Chavs and all of them were in awe of us getting so far and, to their credit, all supported us against the Dippers
