Also, we won the final, so who gives a fuck?

Nobody. I don't think a single person on here is saying we should have played differently in the final, or that the performance in the final diminishes the win. This is just the interpretation people are coming up with based on some weird sensitivity to any post which isn't "WOO WE WON".

The whole reason people bring up the performance & the fact United are terrible is simply to say we shouldn't be looking at winning the game as a reason to keep on Ange, because it isn't.

No, I said "got through a whole cup run" - I didn't say anything about going out in earlier rounds, which happens to most managers.

Try again? I dunno what you're trying to do here other than maybe settle scores unrelated to football.

I've been critical of him, but he got the tactics just right in the final – just like he did away at Frankfurt.

We had no creative players, so we deliberately tried to make it a war of attrition. We kept making niggly little fouls all game to stop United building any sort of momentum and to wind up a few of their players (Fernandes, Maguire). This played totally into our hands. I also think the video by Adam Clery showed that the goal was a typical goal for United to concede because dragged their defenders out of position with movement in and around the box. It looked like something we worked on in training.

Bringing on Danso at just the right time was a good sub. Amorim, on the other hand, got his subs completely wrong. Garnacho with only 20 mins – bad. Mainoo on 90 mins – stupid.

If we had conceded first, we were toast.
If they had equalised, we were toast.

You can definitely beat Ange with the 22 defeats stick (that simply isn't good enough), but I don't think you can say anything critical about the Europa League win. In fact, if we were judging him along on those performances, we wouldn't even be having the debate about his job right now. He actually showed flexibility, resilience, grit, gamesmanship etc in those games – all the stuff that we didn't see in the league.

Also, we won the final, so who gives a fuck?

Also if Solanke puts away the chance created by Udogie's break away run we go 2-0 up and it's game over and a deadset stress free Mourinho masterclass of a final.

The manager was nothing short of spectacular across the end of the European campaign and anyone who tries to deny it is fucking deluded. We were a shit team, playing a shit system with no creativity and no world class players and he turfed it all aside to win fucking ugly and they did it. It' was brilliant.

Do I want to watch that football going ahead? Not particularly. But I appreciate what was done and what it achieved for us and no fucking quibbling and whatabouting.

We won the Europa, so the tactics were perfect. Had we lost they weren't. It always stands or falls on that, which is inherently flawed.

We did not control the match against United or Frankfurt. Personnel had an impact but I actually think it forced Postecoglou's hand.

Postecoglou does not deserve another game in charge and there is nothing of fabric to anyone's argument about winning the Europa. Nothing.

22 games being beaten should not need any Spurs fan to cry over the guy's departure. Too much sentiment on show.

They had great players like Enzo Scifo and Morten Olson, it really isnt like now where every good player is playing for the same 7 or 8 teams in Europe. They were fucking miles better than this current Utd team.
The point is there are ways to discredit or credit both wins depending on agenda.

You could point at some of those united players and make very solid cases for their pedigree.

It just baffles me why there are supposed Spurs fans playing down the recent win. Leave that to fans of other clubs.

Out of curiosity, is anyone able to tell me our xg, shots on goals, touches in box, progressive dribbles or field tilt etc from the 84 final?

Winning on pens sounds more of a blag than within 90 mins but we never talk about the 84 win like that, against an absolute European minow.
Anderlect absolute minnow in 1984.
What the fuck are you on, well it’s obvious you have no fucking clue about football history.

They were the defending champions of the trophy, European cup semi finalists the year before, and won 5 European trophies in the 8 years prior to final, arguable the second best team in Europe at the time and clear favourites for the tie.

I'm just amused how spurs fans love to diminish us winning our 1st European trophy since before i was born
If it wasn’t for the Ange in/out debate I don’t think that would be a thing at all.

Unfortunately there are some fans who constantly trot out ‘He’s won our first European trophy in 41 years’ as the only argument to retaining Ange, completely ignoring the dreadful league form or the context surrounding the favourable Europa League run.

The fact that so many Ange in fans are so stubbornly ignoring any other aspect is the prime reason behind it, otherwise it would just be the preserve of the gooner wind up merchants IMHO.

Both Poch and Harry had bad cup exits, but then they also were actually going full throttle in the league week to week and not throwing everything at one of the cups. That's what happens when you're not dedicating all your energy to that one competition.

We went out to Fulham early in Ange's first season in a cup, because we were focused on the league.

Ange's cup run in the Europa had so much to do with it becoming our everything. People need to understand this. It wasn't genius coaching or a winning mentality. The CL also became our everything in that final season under Poch, we just weren't lucky enough to play a really shite side in the final. Cup football is a terrible way to judge managers.

👍

Agree, that decision should be based on whether we think the Europa was a sign that Ange can now take this club forward, or merely a one-off. There is an argument for both (which is why I've been kinda on the fence about this).

Que - Redknapp got through a whole cup run playing teams well below us and failed to beat one of them - well, failed to beat most of them actually - relying on replays

He went out in the semi-final.

I’d also argue that Ange showed a unique capacity to beat United this year. We did the league double over them and beat them in the Cup right before Christmas

That’s how shit United were, they lost 3x to us. Nothing about the Final proved anything we didn’t already know. Of course it earned us a trophy which is spectacular but it’s not some incredible datapoint.

This is hyperbole of the highest order. Ludicrous stuff.

We beat Frankfurt, Bodo and a United side with a 29% league win rate who were one place above us in the league. It was effective, good stuff but it was nowhere close to even touching spectacular. That would be reserved for heroics such as beating teams well above your station.

This is where we lose touch of reality.

They had a bad season, didn't win their own league, had a controversial semi final, but we need to know shots on goals and xg to validate our win.

Man Utd are massive. One of the biggest clubs in the world ever.

As I said, it's a matter of agendas.
Weird to play down our 84 win isn't it?
Same goes for 25.

well once he's gone (which seems very likely) maybe everyone will just let go of their Ange hate, or Ange love and just enjoy that moment in Bilbao instead of coming up with bollox for why it's not special :contekiss:
