It’s not beneath us. It’s also very low quality. Both things can be true. In fact anyone pretending this isn’t a low quality competition is lying to every other person on here.

We are playing a team with a lower wage budget than Wrexham in a semi final to get to a final against an abysmal United team that we (16th in the prem!) have beaten 3 times.

Most people are sensible enough in their heads to see that this doesn’t mean anything practically speaking for Ange (sack him we are awful) but is an awesome opportunity to win something, anything!

Most people are sensible enough not to make it about Ange at all but you can't get him out of your head.

As a club, it would be massive to win the EL and anyone delusional enough to think it will be easy is either not that familiar with following this club since ENIC bought it or looking to diminish the achievement early in case we do win.

Fuck me the negativity in here......we won the game, completely dominated, should have won 4-0 and conceded a lucky deflected goal......we can absolutely go there and win......we arent going there in December in the pitch black in -10 degree weather, its mid may it'll be 6 degrees and we have 2 4 g pitches at spurs to train on and practice on. We completely dominated them all over the pitch and well do it away too.

Fuck me in Qarabag can win there so can we.

But then that’s just spending more money than anyone else. He’s not going to do that. I’d say his long term plan is hoping that FFP bites harder and harder in the coming years, putting us in a strong position financially. We’d also have a team of early to mid twenties stars in a few seasons that would be, by then, good enough and experienced enough to take advantage. I’d say that’s the hope. Add to this a manager who, no matter his shortcomings, is different to who we’ve tried before and Levy has his project building plan all in place, to save him having to spend all the money.
That's not spending more money than anyone else, it's spending about the average of Woolwich and Chelsea.

Spurs: £114m
Chelsea: £170m
Woolwich: £166m

increasing our wage bill by 50% takes us to their level. And would support 4-5 more elite players. Which is massive tbh.

It would be massive for what it represents (our first trophy in ages) and not for what it practically is. That is the difference.

It doesn’t say anything about our current ability or qualities. Ange needs to go regardless. That is vital. You and other people will argue he should stay if he wins it and that is the problem.

He's a totally inept 'manager' who I've wanted out since forever but what exactly are we doing here?

We played well, dominated the whole game and won comfortably. He started Richi and Bissouma ( nobody had them in their starting 11 btw) and they were two of the best players on tbe pitch. Starting Richi on the left was a smart decision as they couldn't really cope with his strength and physical presence.

I want Ange out regardless of the outcome of Europa but let's not try diminish everything (even when it's good.).

If trophies are so easy to win, why has it been so long since we won one?

If we treated it as second rate under Poch what happened under Jose and all the other Spurs managers who have played in it and never got to the SF or F?

You are making no sense. In one post you say our lack of trophies is shameful but next post you act like this competition is easy and and beneath us.
The format change has made a significant difference IMHO.

There’s no longer teams dropping down from the Champions League into the Europa which has resulted in there being a lower quality opponent in the knockout rounds.

tbf, I actually think Wrexham, at least at their ground, would beat us. :D

Yep. 100%.

The reality is we just play worse teams in the Europa league. So when Maddison & people on here talk about us playing well in Europe it’s all a bit misleading.

The fact United, a team with a 30 odd percent win rate under Amorim, will also be with us in a final tells you the quality of this competition.

Ange should go regardless.

United will get to the final. No doubt at all. Us, I say it's 70:30.
Very true. Still great to win it.

The old UEFA cup was very hard to win. Harder IMO than the old European Cup. More good teams in it.

Correct.

There was nothing more unfair in that world of unfairness than allowing CL dropouts another chance in another competition. Utterly perverse.

So yes, easier to win but does not diminish anything, and if we were to win the thing, not one of us would celebrate with any less intensity than if we won the CL,FA Cup or anything.

Put simply, winning a trophy of note would send us into euphoric and collective rapture.

So, fcuk Sunday and let's preserve every bit of energy for next week, do as we did yesterday, and then ready ourselves for the 21st.

By God man, we are the mighty Spurs didn't you know!!!!

It's not at all, Barcelona are an incredibly direct team who get the ball to their forwards quickly, Tika Taka focused on possession and recycling the ball and making short passes.

Flick's style is similar to Ange's, there's nothing wrong in saying that - that doesn't mean they're on the same coaching level.
Exactly this, is high line, direct football, they actually go route one constantly and play all out attack which leaves acres of space when you play through their press. Its not even like they have elite defenders to cover, arguably our back 4 is better than theirs, but what they do have is world class midfielders and attackers.

So...we're one draw and one win from the Champions League next season, yes its through the back door...but we all deserve to get lucky once in a while.
Technically could be one defeat and a draw away from "glory"...

I think it's essentially debating whether there's actually any credit due to the Manager for the result last night, or whether it's a result that would likely have come about whoever was picked and whatever tactical direction they were given.

Why does that matter you may ask, and I'd guess that the most staunchly Ange out simply don't want to see credit being directed at him as that's when the "oh he should be given next season" sentiment starts to creep back in, and frankly that's the worst possible future timeline.

I will just be so pleased when he is gone.

I don't think he brings anything that I like to the team.

Not blaming him for the goal conceded today, but I have zero idea what he stands for and no confidence that he navigates next week. I really hope I am wrong.

At 3 nil we were cruising, Bodø offered nothing and it was a pretty easy game for us. However, the last 30 mins (injuries didn’t help) but it was like the players either went to sleep or weren’t receiving any instructions on what to do. There was a clear plan in the first half but nothing in the last 30. What should have been 3 nil or even greater finished 3-1 and has given Bodo hope… especially on a pitch that we’ve already fluffed our lines once this season.

It's Bodo Glimt at home and they were missing 6 starting eleven players.

I'm not giving Ange credit for us being the better team against them. If we managed to put in a good performance against Liverpool, or shit even one against Villa away or any other team who we should really be able to at least somewhat stand up against, then he can have some credit.

He's not getting credit for the barest of bare minimums. I'm not gonna sit here and give him a pat on the back for starting the 60m striker off the left against a team who spend 6m euros a year on wages for their entire squad. Sorry not bloody sorry.

Yep, nothing I disagree with.

The scene was set for 4 or 5. Definitely a clean sheet.

I know we won, controlled the game but they have one of 2 chances and score. Too fallible.... nearly always.

Being tight and boring for 15 or 20 minutes would have sufficed, but what they have to do is attack us and that will give us chances.

And no chasing the game FFS.
