In 2 seasons, he finished 5th without Kane and won our biggest trophy in 41 years.

He's comfortably our most successful manager in the modern era. He also had our worst league season in the modern era but the last 2 managers to have seasons as bad in the league were Bill Nich and Keith Burkinshaw.

Obviously people are struggling to adjust to the fact that someone they were sure they were "right" about has miraculously turned into the one who gave us all the best night of our lives as Spurs fans but in time, they will get there.

If we were a club that expected or even seriously tried to win the PL then it would be a different argument but under these owners we aren't so in reality, and in time, that league season will come to mean literally nothing. The EL win means something forever. Permanently etched into our memories long after anyone remembers what some spurs fan said online.

I do suspect that a lot of the vitriol of the usual suspects comes from them knowing that they can't take any real joy out of this trophy because it undermines everything they've said for 18 months. So all they have left now is the manager's scalp - because that's their only "trophy" left.

It is unfathomably sad for them. That night in Bilbao and the parade afterwards was joy injected into veins. Imagine not really truly being able to feel part of that because you called the manager a "fat cunt" cos you're so edgy...

If you think that our goal of winning the EL combined with the limited squad depth (and injuries) had nothing to do with the league results then It's ok. You're right.
It was a contributing factor, but I don’t believe for a minute the decision was made to bin off the league in January. That’s Ange getting the narrative to fit the circumstances.

Other teams have managed to balance European and domestic competition.

The hope is that they're waiting to have the replacement lined up before they officially make the change.. But that's because I'm a jolly little optimist.

I think that's a huge part of it, tbf.
It's why I think after February, it became obvious we'd be back to Mason and a media circus. The decision was taken to just ride it out as that was less embarrassing than another merry-go-round of silly stories about managers rejecting us left right and center.
I didn't believe half the nonsense after Jose and Conte were sacked. I don't think we even started to look for replacements for many weeks, and just talking to someone and not appointing them is not a sign they rejected us.

A very small minority maybe, but IMHO that’s complete bollocks for the vast majority of people that want to see change.

I was Ange in for a looong time before he eventually wore me down with the abysmal league results. The Europa was one of the best moments I’ve had supporting Spurs and I briefly wavered on wanting him out, thinking maybe change the support cast of assistants, but I’m back to thinking the best thing for the club is to swap him out for someone more competent.

For sure yeah - I'm talking about a minority. The "fat cunt" minority as I think of them. We all know who they are. The ones with no sense of humour or taste.

But yeah - your take is as valid as anyone's. It was a very very bad league season

What's strange to me is that some people can't seem separate the enormous accomplishment of winning the EL and the decision of who is the best to manage us in 2025-26.

I am ecstatic that Ange brought us the trophy. No matter how it got done, it got done and I am forever grateful to him.

But, much like when a League 1 level striker helps get you promotion to the Championship, you still need to upgrade for the next season.

For 2025-26, we simply can't have the manager that couldn't handle both the PL and competing in a lower level European competition at the same time be the man at the helm for now doing the same thing but in a higher level competition. He may have been the best person for last season, but that in no way makes him the best person for the upcoming season. He's shown his limits and now we need to thank him and move forward, he's proven he can't do both. We're Tottenham, we should be competing everywhere.

Well, PSG just won the CL playing high intensity football with an aggressive press and attacking full backs.

What a miracle all of their players hamstrings didn't explode mid game. Very irresponsible of their coach to ask them to sprint in a game.

They play in an incredibly weak 18 team league with only one domestic cup and can afford the best of absolutely everything in every position and to have the likes of Barcola in reserve, what a shit comparison to competing as Tottenham in the premier league where every week is a knife fight and you're never, ever going to have the wealth of a country behind you.

I remember when Poch first said it wasn't about winning trophies but being able to consistently put yourself in a position to win them that mattered.

Many were pissed at this because they seemed to think he was disrespecting the FA and League cups but I always agreed with him because cup runs are nice but league position is the true marker. I still generally agree with this BUT a European Trophy is a big fucking deal and if it comes at the cost of league position for one year I'm more than happy with it.

BTW: When Poch got us to the CL final it came on the back of an end of year collapse in league form that would carry on into the next season and get him sacked.

Also Poch's 11 was lightyears better than what we have now.

Well I do remember results suffering in the end of CL final run. And start of next season. But compared to anything Ange has shown in last 50 games in EPL this was phenomenal league form still.
Under Poch since the end of Feb to end of season when we played in CL final we got 11 points from 12 games (winning 3 drawing 2).
Under Ange this season we got whopping 1 win and 2 draws. So 5 points from 12 games.

Regarding Poch 18-19 team - it literally featured Winks and Sissoko in midfield for the final vs Liverpool. Neither of them would be no better than 5th pick right now. On the attacking side - sure Kane, Son and Alli at that time were far better than what we have now. Fullbakcs - that seasons Rose and Trippier vs Porro-Udogie-Spence - around same-same. Central defense was far better then too. So agreed- he had better starting XI overall, but not as much better than some people make it out to look. Absolutely not "lightyears ahead".

They're an excellent outfit, but no chance in hell they would blitz the premier league. Would be much much much tougher for them.

Away to Liverpool or Away to FC Frogmunchers des baguettes. Hmmmm

And we were playing two legs against an Ajax team who battered the fuck out of Juventus and Real Madrid that year in Europe, not Bodo Glimt, so I'd expect our league form to suffer. Or you know, a 100 point City team instead of AZ fucking Alkmaar.

The idea we ever needed to throw away the league to beat these teams is absolutely terrifying. The games around Frankfurt maybe but holy shit we played some absolute garbage in the league and for most of the knockouts, let's be completely honest about this. AZ and Bodo would not stay in the premier league.
