He’s taken the short term contract on big wages and laughed his way to the bank.

Levy’s fault for recruiting him though. No long term plan. But I feel he was just trying to keep Kane at the club.
In hindsight every decision except for the appointment of Nuno just screams Levy trying to keep Kane at the club.

All short term decisions to try and appease the star man.

Exactly. The same thinking that sold Walker for £50m (good business at the time) and is currently seeing us at £100m and counting to not replace him. And haggling over Porro; none of us know how good Porro would be in this league, but he's looked a player over there. But then Doherty looked decent enough for Wolves, Trippier looked solid for Burnley - both were signed on the basis of offensive output, which they never really replicated at Spurs.

Trippier was an excellent player for us (only our stupidest fans wanted to get rid of him), that is exactly the type of signing we should be doing more of. Even a player like Doherty is better than Reguilon at double the price.

Save the big money for high profile signings, key signings and get a few home grown, PL proven lads to round out the squad. Having Dan Burn (and Trippier) in the team isn't doing Newcastle any harm. We could have got someone like Ben Mee on a free and it is impossible that he could be worse than Lenglet. We could have kept KWP and again, it is impossible that he could be worse than £25m Emerson.

Tim Sherwood is a moron but he was right about our club's strange obsession with foreign players over home grown talent. Just look at the mess we are in with our HG quota after buying so many shit foreign players in the last 5 years.

Ironically if we'd kept Trippier he'd be exactly what we need now. He was left isolated and under pressure defensively in Poch's system, usually with Sissoko in front of him, just pointing. Region is suspect defensively but he offers more than Sess - I suspect Ness is still here because there's no suitors and he fits the home grown quota.

The club is an absolute mess.
I have no faith in these current owners to make the right decison now.

Fine - Conte goes but what is the plan?

Is there going to be a strategy?
Is player recruitment going to be improved?
Are we going to get an attack minded manager?
What is the ambition for the club? Winning trophies or 4th place every season?

The fans should demand answers beacuse it just isnt good enough - the continuous failing of the board to back managers or make the right appointment is shocking.

......And our manager.

I think that was more understandable because Poch had openly declared (before the CL final) that he would rather not continue with us. The fire had gone out of his eyes after losing the CL and the only way to bring it back was to spend big on quality, which was never going to happen. The same thing is now happening to Conte. An opportunity has been wasted and now his passion has gone.

Many fans would accept targeting fourth if we saw effort in the cups to offset that. We aren't winning the league, but we understand the financial importance of the Champion's League in the current game. But for too long the cups are thrown. Or, on the occasions we do progress, lose due to mentality issues.

This

Football is an emotional event. We can all talk technical and spreadsheet but 50% is the human element, something the club fails to understand. If you burn through a managers goodwill eventually there is little left.

Our plans appear to be to take top quality managers and rather than back and build with them simply burn them out until the sacking and the next one can start. It’s the ideology of the sweatshop owner.

If he's going, get him gone now. The players or he won't give a shit until the end of the season, so get someone fresh in who will play more attractive football and lift the players.

No point in waiting, that will help no one.

Ah right, another excuse for Conte's relative paucity.

I don't see what any of that has to do with selling Trippier.

Trippier said over the course of his last season Poch had frozen him out and would barely even talk to him.....
