3rd or 4th choice at nearly £50m
We paid a lot of money and a bit of HG tax too but he’s still young and has time to develop further. At this stage of his career he should be 3rd or 4th choice at a club that wants to be seriously challenging. In a couple of seasons hopefully that won’t be the case and it will be seen as a decent investment.

Levy will have an anuerism at the idea of paying £50m for even a 2nd choice player.
Especially after the Ndombele debacle.

They 100% elevated the squad and came with PL winning experience.

Nonsense.

- They were both bit-parters at City.
- "PL winning experience." is a hollow cliche given they haven't helped the scum win the league.
- 100% elevated? Again; Zinchenko is shit and The scum have been pining for a new striker again within months of buying him.

......In the grand scheme of things, they're obviously worthy of playing in a big league (and on his day Jesus has some lovely moments of quality); but why are you so determined to gas up a couple of goon players who haven't done what they were signed to achieve?

I was banging on about signing him when he was in the championship. He looked great because Forest played really quick counter attacking football. Not sure he has the quality on the ball for a team that is recording 60% to 70% possession most games though. Ironically he would have been a good Moura replacement in the Mourinho or Conte sides.

On the flip side he hasnt been as bad as some are making out and its easy to sniff at the goals and assists but again what was Mouras record like with Kane and Son as strikers. Even Aaron Lennon who i liked a lot didnt produce a lot numbers wise. He wont be sold so we have to hope he can improve and with better forwards i think he will.

The original comment tried to use Jesus/Zinchenko as an argument for why Doku/Grealish would not be an improvement on Johnson.

It's completely flawed as both players improved Woolwich's squad at the time of their arrival.

Being an upgrade of Nketiah & Callum Chambers? High bar there fella........

It's not false to say that City have had plenty of players that have proven to be passengers over the years.

Doku (although young) hasn't been good enough this season to warrant this argument.
Grealish had a nightmare season.

He's so much better than Moura IMO.
Take away 45 minutes of 1 game, and he was generally awful. He aimed to run into the nearest oppo player and fall over. All so Kane could hit the resulting free kick straight into the wall.

Yeah exactly. Did Moura get 10 assists in his entire Tottenham career? If he did cant be many more. Gives you some idea that its not easy and whilst it hasnt been easy on the eye its at least contributing.

He went over 30 games without a goal and some fans wanted to build a statue outside the stadium because of Amsterdam.

The level of forgiveness he got over the years sickened me. He was dreadful most of the time. There was a reason nobody saw him as anything more than 10 minutes here or there.

Johnson is definitely a case where the stats mislead the reality.

We are a team now where basically all the attacks get built as combinations through the wings. They're either crossing the ball in, or coming in for a tap in from the other side. Rinse and repeat a hundred times a game.

By law of averages if you try this umpteen times each game every game then you'll get something right. And if you are playing every game you'll get some alright stats.

That goes for Johnson, that's why Timmy Werner put some stats up, dozens of other bang average PL (or lower) wide players would get a return under these tactics, you could probably get Aaron Lennon out of retirement for 10 goal contributions a season, I'm sure there are even decent amateur footballers in the crowd you could pluck out for a few G/A's tbh.

Johnson has one reasonably effective trick - run in a straight line and hopefully someone finds you with the through ball. He's then been programmed to quickly cross it across the box. That's it. He can barely control the ball, he does little in way of passing, he can't dribble past an opponent with any type of skill, and his finishing has been pretty haphazard. He sometimes presses well at random moments, and going the other way his tracking back is absolute dog muck.

We've got to be doing better than this, we're simply wasting our time if we don't go into next season with two new wingers, on either flank.

not when you bring the price tag into it. its a terrible buy for 50m. if he was 15-20 then fair enough...but 50!

hell be ok as a squad player that you bring on to hit teams on the counter. but thats it aint it lets be honest. 50m is dreadful business.
He didn't set his own price tag and probably feels the same way tbh,

You’ve perfectly summed Johnson up

the whole front line needs upgrading. i like richie, but we need a ST that can actually hold the ball up and provide the occasional bit of silk. richie is perfect if youre gonna be slamming the ball in the box, but we dont even do that.

I agree tbh, feel like its the weakest area of the team.

Do feel there is a place for kulu, Johnson and son in the squad next year. But we need some proper star quality up there
