Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Indeed. So many things wrong with it today:
Ages to make a decision; ref seemed to have no confidence in his ability so starting referring everything; players acting like cunts drawing TVs in the air; the poor bastards at the game we're left in the total dark, etc, etc.
Shouldn't be getting trialed in big cup games. Fucking iron out the kinks in some lower league games first.

And the very fact the ref had to study the reply for so long for that penalty suggests the problem was just as much about his flawed interpretation of the law as the VAR. Just get on with it and make a decision.

VAR will only work if it's limited in use, like the challenge system in tennis and NFL. Managers get two challenges per half. That's it though. Replays of incidents to be shown on the big screen so the fans know what's going on. Current system is a fucking joke.

Also, thank you Liverpool. We had a terrible result BUT at least we're still in the Cup. One of Chelsea or Man City to go out today please. ;-)

As always, it's not the idea at fault, it's the implementation.

The video ref should have already made a decision by the time it's referred. If it takes longer than that then it's not a simple decision, stick with the ref.

I'm 100% for use of video refs but always knew it would be implemented so poorly that it'll be slated - typical FA really.

problem will be the tactical appeal.20 secs left, away from home and 1 up. home team breaks on and look like they are going to score. you call for a replay on a nothing/marginal.(say like last night) for the pen does the ref stop the game for the appeal. he doesnt, home team scores. its an agueeeeeerooooooo moment. its marginal. does he disallow the goal to stop the oppo from winning the title at old trfford in front of 70000 fans all screaming for the appeal to be overturned?

whatever they do, they need to

1) any player/manager/team official asking for VAR gets booked. and its comminicated thats the reason.
2)improve commication that its gone to var in the first place
3)get rid of clear and obvious error. like last nights pen, too much of that is subjective
4)if a player clearly goes over uneccessarily, like last night, booking. even if its technically a penalty. onus has to be on players to keep their feet

Just fucken bin it.

It's supposedly only for when a ref has definitely got something wrong.

The pen he gave Liverpool on that basis was scandalous, watch it a million times and he didn't 'definitely' get it wrong by not giving a penalty first time round. If anything on replay Salah would get a retrospective ban for diving.

I made this point a long time ago.
When a penalty is given that’s contentious some pundit, commentators, fans and refs think it wasn’t, some think he dived, some think it was.
How is VAR going to solve that as it’s another interpretation by a human that will not be agreed with 100% by all all of the time.
Maybe offsides, but even then where do you draw the line, a hand, a foot, a head in offside position?
It’s not cricket where it’s black and white.
Ball touched the ground
Ball hit the bat
Ball hit the pad etc

It’s an opinion.

the actual law is any part of the body with which you can legally play the ball. the issue with offside is interfering with play. thats a matter of opinion in a lot of cases.

What about this
four linesman
2 in each half.
They should be looked at no different from the ref.
He runs the diagonal.
That way they get to see stuff the linesman on the opposite side cannot see if the ref is also not able.
Like penalty decisions where the ref is behind and the linesman on the other side of the pitch.
It may also be better for offsides as one linesman can concentrate on the last line whe the ball is over the other side and that linesman can exclusively monitor play for incidents instead of simultaneously monitoring the last line of defence.

The person sat watching the replay has to act responsibly (I don't think they did yesterday) and just have the guts to say when it's inconclusive - maybe a green, amber, red light system that links to the ground....anything apart from red means the original decision stands.....there should hardly ever be any reds.

Well there you go then.
It’s the person on the VAR interpretation of the law and his/her opinion.
It’s never going to be 100% all the time.
Football is a game that’s open to interpretation and really what makes it so interesting.
Ever since I was a kid and Clive Thomas I’ve been calling refs biased, bad decisions cost us etc.
It usually evens itself out. You all get good and bad calls.
Goal line technology is the only one that works fullproof.

Also VAR operators can be bribed .
Next we will be saying they got bought off or are biased etc.

That’s the theory and it’s very sensible.
But I doubt it can happen.
One persons inconclusive is another’s yes or no.
We are humans.
Not a snickometer
Not a Hawkeye
The only human decision in cricket is if the ball hit the ground before it’s caught. They are usually very clear, if not the original decision stands.

Yet in football one persons view of a dive is another’s penalty.
We saw that yesterday.

I wish I saw their game yesterday.
Hopefully it’s taped itself.

Liverpool are similar to us
Scintillating at times but struggle against supposedly weaker teams.
Yet where they are more likely beat the City’s, Man Us and Chelsea’s when we have trouble doing so, we usually don’t lose against the “weaker” teams. We draw.

The fans, well their gooners on steroids.
Klopp out has reared it’s head again after a few weeks of content.

They are complaining about Jurgen Christ’s defensive limits.Did they not see his Dortmund teams?
What happened to them when the goals dried up

The equipment is only as good as those people who are trained to operate it!
Naw. Fuck that. It’s not a training issue. The entire VAR concept is a step too far. It will ruin the game we love.

The product the premier league sells is not an accurate contest where the victor is beyond reproach. No, the product is drama. It’s all about human failure and rapid excitement. The use of VAR slows the game and pursues perfection. If the premier league adopts VAR then the game is fucked. Find a new sport people.

The problem is money. So much riding on it that the big clubs are insisting on VAR to protect their investments.

You’re wrong in so many ways, I don’t know where to begin.
