Based solely on their current or last contracts with Woolwich that lot cost them £165.3m in wages!!!!!! (you could probably add £10m on top of that to cover their earnings prior to these contracts).

This was 2012, to put that into perspective Tottenham's entire revenue for that year was £144.2m!! The rest, as they say, is history, having finished behind them by just 1 point between '12 to '19 3 times we have overtaken them on the pitch finishing 11pts then 14pts higher and currently 10pts more than them with still 12 more games to play!! Off the field too they have always tracked £100m (give or take) more than us in revenue (2012 = £90m more; 2017 = £117m more) all latest predictions once we get into our new stadium suggest our revenue will hit £400m mark, whilst Woolwich fail to qualify for CL our revenues will be almost comparable.
For those people who routinely demand we "just paid the money" think carefully where this can get you, were it not for Woolwich's generosity in the wages dept I doubt we would have hauled them in as convincingly as we have. Paying these no-marks "the going rate" salaries has been their demise. Unfortunately, the financial chasm that exists in the league today precludes them from disappearing to mid-table obscurity but fuck them, finishing above them is fucking superb, to do so emphatically is even sweeter and for them to miss out on the CL windfall whilst we shovel that into our account instead is the cherry on top.

Hopefully, common sense will prevail and they'll recognise that this one and say Sanchez' deal at United are outliers, where somebody shit the bed by sanctioning those numbers being paid weekly.
What Toby and Eriksen commands will still be more based on the level in overall market, more than crazy deals here and there.
Still, we're likely to offer less than they could get elsewhere, so still a question of them valuing to continue to be part of what we're building over easy money and easy glory
