The reason for him buying the chavs becomes completely clear. He loses it and he's apparently off'd near enough straight away.

What a fucked up situation. If he dies then I wonder what happens as the sanctions are on him. If it passes to his wife or daughter in his will then I assume the sanctions carry over?
Doubt they will, sanctions are not on the source of the money but Romans links to Putin. Roman gone so are those links, I doubt his wife or daughter have any close ties.
Gotta be more complicated than that though; otherwise why wouldn't RA just sign the club over to his daughter.
I think the wives/daughter's of a few oligarchs have been sanctioned too?

This is an informed opinion not fact.

Its not his club he is sanctioned so can't.

I meant at the time he was 'on notice' that sanctions were imminent.....

Surely the money-trail from Russia to RA is part of the case against RA.....?

As I noted above; some of it doesn't stack up:

[According to Matt Lawton] Abramovic was allowed to appoint his own representatives to sell the club...... WDF???

Chelsea board (Buck etc.) being allowed to be the ones to decide who the successful bidders are.

Government basically taking no active part in the process.

He could have done but then I would guess the government sanctions further down the line so not worth while.

Money trail is a case but that proves he is linked to Putin not that its dirty money, government don't want to lift that rock.

I would guess he gets most of the money back at the end of this when we drop our sanctions. The fact that he would approve the sale was widely discussed at the outset, I have no insight on why but it was one of the most likely possibilities.

Sorry, I thought your OG point was that the ability to sanction wouldn't trickle down to his daughter.

Indeed they don't.

Wouldn't suprise me, but then again we still haven't had confirmation as to what "the proceeds of the sale will be donated to charity" actually fleshes out to be.

I wonder; will the other Oligarchs have the value of their sanctioned assets returned eventually too? ...Or would this too be a special dispensation made for RA?

If he died they are unlikely, if he passed on to avoid pre sanction almost certainly

I was thinking about all assets not just the club. The sanctions are not repossession but frozen, if we decide its beneficial to normalise relations with Russia and sanctions are lifted then assets are returned.

If companies go bust we won't be on the hook for drop in value.

Seems like selecting the new owners will run through until May. They had that £30m from Abramovich's company (that was apparently already earmarked) to pay wages in April but it will be interesting to see what happens next pay day when the players and staff don't get their wages.

Maybe a few players will seek to terminate contracts although missing one payment may not be enough to cover "just Cause"

Is it enough to find themselves punished by the league.......?

Chelsea FC sale: Terry’s True Blues consortium in 'positive' talks over purchase of stake

An adviser to the consortium co-founded by Chelsea legend John Terry tells Sky News it is in discussions with two of the final four bidders for the club.

The fan-led group co-founded by the former Chelsea captain John Terry that wants to buy a 10% stake in the Premier League club is in "positive" talks with two of the shortlisted bidders, according to the banker advising it.

Sky News understands that the True Blues Consortium has approached three of the four consortia vying to end Roman Abramovich's near-two decade tenure as owner of the Stamford Bridge club.

Sandford Loudon, a partner at Oakvale Capital and True Blues Consortium representative, said on Wednesday that he anticipated sufficient demand to acquire a 10% shareholding in Chelsea if it was sold at a £2.5bn valuation.

"Thousands of supporters and dedicated fans have contributed over £100m to True Blues," Mr Loudon said.

"We're having positive discussions with the two leading bidders and the bank in charge of the transaction, and our primary goal is to ensure that Chelsea fans have a voice during these unprecedented times.

"We are defending our valuable club's history and principles and hope that by allowing fans to own a piece of Chelsea FC, this ground-breaking new model will change how football teams are run."

How do they work out that £100m is 10% of £2.5bn

Lots of people said Abramovich bought Chelsea as some kind of protection. Now he is losing ownership it’ll be interesting to see what happens. Putin is bound to make a few examples of people to scare the rest into towing the line.

Abramovich may or may not have bought Chelsea to make him a prominent person who Putin couldn;t easily discard.

But at the same time Abramovich owned Channel One (Russia's very pro regime TV station peddling pro Putin stories and lies) - recently 'sold' back to Putin's other mates plus allegedly using some of the ill gotten gains from various dodgy deals (buy Sibneft for £100m sell it to Russian government company for multiple billions etc) to buy mega yachts for Putin, contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to Putin's billion dollar mansion etc.

So Abramovich has 'paid his way' as far as Putin is concerned. Only question is whether Abramovich will be seen as being useful in the future, and that might decide his fate.
