Dane Scarlett - 7

(Replaced by Reeco Hackett on 67 minutes): The shining light of the first half and only player who looked capable of causing problems in attacking areas.

*Will post the youth loan ratings in this thread until Parrott back playing

(Replaced Joe Pigott in 58th minute) Had a great chance to head home Zak Swanson’s cross but sent it wide. Always a threat, though.

Dane Scarlett - 6

(Replaced by Josh Koroma on 54 minutes): Struggled to find a way past Oxford’s two physical centre-halves, yet certainly wasn’t afraid to try.

He’s hit the man’s football wall.

Need to eat well Dane, drive that readiness back into your tissue (ATP Mag) and drain that boyness away.

You got this.

Went to the Pompey match today to do a bit of Dane spotting as I’m just down the road.

This should be taken in the context of the fact he’s playing with Portsmouth. Linked up attacking play was thin on the ground and they were all content to kick the ball around in their own half, till Shrewsbury had the audacity to nick it and score, which woke them up a bit.

When Dane got the ball his passing was generally quick and positive, and he made a couple of attempts on goal that smashed into defenders. Biggest pleasant surprise was that he was busy elsewhere, I counted 3 times that he won possession back in midfield, stopping their attacks and starting his own. Also quite assertive for such a young lad, showing the others where he wanted the ball played. Shame his teammates rarely delivered!

He’s taller and stronger than I remember, but got tackled a lot and didn’t always have the power to come out intact- he was definitely hobbling by the end. I thought he was the best player there, but I’m biased and was focused on him. He did get man of the match, although a few of the Pompey fans around me were like “really?” I think they were just fed up with their team in general. They all got booed off, as after a strong start, things are feeling a bit bogged down. Guess we know that feeling!

On BBC2 this Friday night hopefully.

Dane Scarlett - 6

Going through a bit of a dip at present, but his energy and commitment still make him a threat, pestering defenders.

not in the squad...wonder if Spurs have asked that he doesn't play so he isn't cup-tied in case he gets recalled or reloaned somewhere else in Jan?
What's the match squad like? I mean, have they rested many, if any, of the usual first team players? Hereford (who they play) are in 14th position in National League North, three leagues below Pompey.

It's basically their strongest possible team minus Scarlett and Dale who are both not in the squad. Dale is on loan from blackpool so probably a similar situation where the parent club has asked for the player not to play so they're not cup-tied

It's probably standard procedure with all loanees regarding cup games.

Hardly. What are the chances of him starting in a cup tie for us. There must be something else lined up.
Next March or April, Spurs have an FA Cup semi-final coming up. Like now, we have Son and Richarlison injured. Then a week before the semi-final Kane gets injured. Scarlett would be recalled. Put it this way, if Kane gets injured against Liverpool on Sunday, it's highly likely Scarlett will be recalled from Portsmouth.
