Given the recent reshuffle and the nature of the now vacant post left behind by Trevor Birch, would Campos just slot into that role? ......As far as I was aware said role was a lot more about deal-making and contracts that anything scouting related.

Where would any potential hire leave Hitchen if indeed Campos desired a bit more of a hybrid of the two roles?
I'd argue that whatever exact role Campos would want to do is how we'd fit him in. Even if a bit of reshuffling was required.

He'd be a coup for us and stopping United getting him would be a big bonus too.

Why would a DOF be any different to what we have currently?

I’m really not sure if you are being serious. We need someone that is actively looking for players to improve the team. That isn’t Levy. Right now who’s actually in charge of recruitment? Because it’s not working.

Poch did not want a director of football hopefully Jose does. Poch has stagnated the careers of Walker Peters and Skipp who both should have on loan at a championship club for the last12 months at least. Our entire set up regarding youth football were wrong( see Chelsea for the correct way to run an academy). Young premier league players at top 6 clubs are not going to go from academy football to premier league and make a difference.

I don't see how things would be different.

DOF - "We need to buy player X"
Levy - "They want too much for him, next...."

Isn't that similar to what happens now?

A DOF would suggest a change in strategy and perhaps would bring in someone that actually knows something about football matters.

To grow as a club, that second part needs to change. We did spend money in the last two windows so there’s hope. We just need the right players.

Sorry I'm struggling.

Manager sees a player or three that he believes will improve his squad. He gives the names and has a discussion with Levy and he goes off to the other club(s) to try and get a deal done.

Why would adding a DOF to that process change anything and/or make it more successful?

There is no chance of a DOF now after this window.
Not necessarily a bad thing, going by the last year;
Ndombele
Lo Celso (made permanent this summer)
Clark (investment for future)
Sess (investment for future)
Bergwijn
Reggie
Doherty
Bale
Hojbjerg
Vinicious
Hart

We have one.

Hitchen was promoted from head scout to Technical Performance Director with the recent restructuring. He fulfills the traditional role of a DOF. With Birch ahead of him as the Director of Football Operations (overseeing the day to day football business).

Our football department is structured as Hitchen and Caplehorn as the heads of recruitment and administration respectively. With Birch as the man they report to/answer to who has the greater responsibility for our "football department". Levy then chairs a board consisting of those three.

Happy with that if that is the cases

Club painted a pretty clear picture IMO in the announcement.

Caplehorn: In charge of administration, contracts, contact with FA, UEFA etc.
Hitchen: In charge of player recruitment and scouting.
Birch: In charge of developing our football department.

Never knew we were after Sid Vicious?

it's a tough one, like I said I'm satisfied with this transfer window but I do think there was an element of chance and not so much of a plan. We eventually got a striker but we had to do a lot of back and forth before we got one. I would just rather a DOF sorting all this stuff out with Mourinho.
Honestly, with COVID and everything going on right now I think that was the plan. To me our plan was...

1. Get in replacements at our MOST critical needs (RB and CDM), we did that early on with Doherty and Hojbejeg

2. Let the market "come to us" in a sense. With COVID, we knew there would be opportunities and so we were patient and let deals fall into our lap.

It may not make sense in most windows but with the unique circumstances I think it makes a lot of sense.

Birch is leaving to become Executive Director of the EFL.

So a short stint in charge but Hitchen and Rebecca who's surname I constantly forget remain in their positions as Technical and Administrative director respectively.

It will be interesting to see who we replace him with. And good luck to Trevor on sorting out the EFL.

Based on the comments from Trevor himself on our site he was more or less headhunted by the EFL and it was an offer he "couldn't refuse".
Yeah, gets a new job that he's going to give his all in, can't wait to get started, big challenge, looking forward to it...............but let's just have a series of interviews somewhere else before I really knuckle down.

What if he was involved in making people redundant or if he had to fire anyone since he's been here, imagine how they could feel. I get shit happens and hey, maybe after a couple of weeks it was actually us thought this fella wasn\t up to much or that his face didn't fit, so they were telling him that he will not see out his probationary period???? But honestly, no matter the circumstances a high-profile hire such as this to only last 3 months only highlights a really poor process at the Club. It fails to identify a chancer, someone not committed, not the right fit or not good enough.

Marc Overmars is leaving his role as sporting director at Ajax in the summer.

Gooner past aside this is tempting. He is a good sporting director and knows how to build good teams on a budget.

Yup Luis Campos has left - just a question of where he goes - and joining Jose Mourhino is a real possibility given Mourhino watching games with Campos between JM leaving ManU and joining Spurs
