The English make it about the black community when a black player misses a penalty. I can therefore see the point Barnes is making, if he's being quoted accurately.

But, to be fair, I don't think there is anyway back for England from the kind of state it has become. The white supremacists run that country.
Not every member of the English community, only a small minority and the majority of on line abuse came from India.

Mate, spin it out however you like, you're the one that is bothered by John Barnes comments not me

I'm sure he'd go as nuts as everyone else if Kane or Stones score the winner on Sunday.

I'm not making it about me at all, that's just a bizarre comment . You seem determined to ruin the good vibes on this thread, even more than the Jocks. Take it elsewhere
I am bothered by John Barnes' comments and that's why I bought it up.
White peop[le can be offended by racist comments, or is that not allowed?

Answer me these questions.

1) John Barnes said we should win the Euro's for the black community.. Is that a racist comment?
2) If Gary Lineker had said lets win the Euro's for the white community, would you consider that racist?

If your answer to either is no, then you are part of the problem.

John Barnes played for England in an era when black players were significantly racially abused. I'd imagine he's proud of how far things have come and is referring to what is still a minority maligned by certain factions.

Lineker talking about the white community would carry a greater weight of historical prejudice and inference. It's comparing apples to oranges.

I don't think it's really an issue, and I also don't think you're racist. Just annoyed with a poorly worded but well-meaning statement of support for the talented black players that proudly represent our shared country.

Fair reply..

The most shocking part about that penalty was that they sent it to the ref to review. Even with a strong England bias, you could at most argue for a soft and marginal penalty.

I thought these weren't supposed to go to review unless it was a clear error? If this sets the standard for today's refereeing, we'd be seeing 10 penalties a game.

A German based journo on a podcast said these types of penalties are pretty common in Germany (German ref).

We really won't.

Am I the only one who thinks it was fair enough?

It was a clear foul if it was outside the box. So it's a pen. Studs onto Kane's boot, without contacting the ball, just as Harry is putting his foot through it. Painful, a bit reckless and late. What am I missing?

If you hit someone with your studs late in a challenge, it's a foul. Especially when it hurts like a motherfucker. In the box? It's a pen, because it's a foul in the box. It will be every time.

Yeah, it could have gone the other way, but it went for us this time. About fucking time!

That decision is down to who makes more of a meal out of it in my opinion.

If Dumfries goes down holding his foot because Kane kicks it, a penalty probably isn't given tbh

I don't think you'll see a softer penalty given for a "challenge" and if we did, you'd get penalties in the Premier League on a weekly basis.

Seems like the threshold for that sort of thing is different in the box than it is out of the box. How many times have we seen players get taken out by goalkeepers or defenders for trying to save or block shots and it not given?

I specifically remember Spurs fans moaning about a penalty we conceded against Southampton when I think Sarr(?) went to clear the ball and the Southampton player simply got in the way. A ridiculously soft decision.

Not particularly arsed on this occasion though because it was England that benefitted 😂

It was.

I’m now coping by being resigned to my fate - you fuckers are winning this. Building performances match on match (brilliant in the first half particularly last night). Don’t know if this has been a settling in thing, or an edgy version of rope-a-dope, but it’s worked. Is Southgate lucky, or is he good? Fuck knows, but there are many countries that would wish for what he’s brought to the party.

When you are winning shootouts, scoring last minute goals and getting ref decisions that are even making the commentary teams chuckle, you are on track to do something big.

If I order a pint of lager instead of Diet Coke next time I see you mate, you’ll know what drove me back to drink.
Which reminds me…when are you next about? Drop me a text big man.

Belgium, Uruguay and Croatia all at their peak. All much better than the current England team. Beat Argentina in a classic World Cup game.

Scored the most goals - played great football.

LMAO that Croatia team needed extra time to get past Gareth’s cobbled together England side including lingard and Dele as a midfield and Ashley young at LWB.

This England team are back to back European finalists with talent all over the pitch. Cope and seethe.

God Save The King 👑

My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the U.E.F.A. European Championship - and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.

If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!

Good luck, England.

You needed a last minute goal and extra time to get past Slovakia. Are you really going to act like that means anything?
