Declan Rice – 8

Another game where the Woolwich man seemed to be everywhere. Several occasions where he made the block or the interception, and was key to the defensive effort as always. He doesn’t need to, but if he could improve his attacking game he would be incredibly useful.

Independent's analysis dead on for me. People criticising him fail to understand his role imo - he is in this team to cover ground, to stop attacks, to be physical. Mainoo doesn't really carry any defensive burden so he is the only person in that midfield to do it.

People can criticise his passing range all they want, he's in here to do a basic role and he's doing it brilliantly as usual. Great strike to force a save from Sommer too.

Fuck off lmao. Tchouameni didn't pass forward once vs Portugal and did the same boring job against Belgium, two 6/10 games.

They are very similar and their role isn't to be expansive, especially under a conservative coach.
The amount of cross field switches Tchouameni has played out to Koundé is unreal. The guy can ping a ball. Did you watch the Belgium game? Koundé was man of the match because Tchouameni found him again and again.

Just basing off this tournament tchouameni has been much better. Except his shooting - been terrible. Rice had a good shot against Switzerland .

Once again England was in a cup cake group, faced middle to low level opponents in the Round of 16 and QF, and now find themselves in a Semi-Final. Horrific performance once again, but Southgate will stay as manager because he got England to a Semi-Final.

The English fans and media all swear to God that the EPL is the best league in the world by far and they have the best players in the world, yet the national team never wins anything and consistently struggle against mid to low level opponents and only get deep into tournaments because they get easy draws.

The next match is the first high quality opponent England faces after having played 5 middle to low level teams. The other match has by far the top teams left in the tournament.
In your opinion, these part-time footballers that England puts on the pitch or on the bench would probably have to play in the relegation match against relegation to hell even in the Vatican league.

I am also one of those ignorant people who thinks that the EPL is the best and, above all, the hardest league in the world.

But that can't really be true, because there are many from the Bundesliga in Germany who absolutely want to play in this EPL!

They are just as lazy bastards who want to have a good time with lots of money and don't have to do anything for it!

Then the thoughts flashed through my head that I briefly considered that it could be the coach of the English national team that the game of "my" team is not as I imagined or wanted it to be.

Or - now it's getting very amateurish - that the EPL has a lot more games in its season (without thinking about the appearances in the European cup games) than many other leagues.

So be it! England beat the strong, but of course lukewarm Dutch, reached the final and was lucky that France(!) or Spain were not well rested that day!

Lol did a quick scan of post match player ratings. 6/10 for Tchouameni for both games, similar ratings for Rice.

Was wondering if I'd missed something incredible from him aside from the mostly sideways passing but nope, seems journalists didn't see it either.

not sure about Tchouameni, but FFS Rice was negative against Switzerland. There's a reason why games against much lower ranked teams have been so close for England. A big part of it is negative play, no doubt in the absence of good tactical coaching from Southgate ... "don't fuck up" rules the day. In this regard Rice is one of the most guilty. Not saying he's done nothing ... yes he's done some useful blocks and tackles but overall a negative presence in a role that should help progress the team up the pitch.

Nothing cringey, just don’t want you to win it. I’ve stated on here it’s because of your idiot pundits, commentators and fans that cause trouble is the reason we fucking want you lot beat.
Moaning cunts on here on the euro thread but now you get further you’re all massively patriotic. Support should always be through the good bad and indifferent times.
Fucking stupid pundits now all over England because they’ve been told by broadcasters to calm the criticism. You’d have thought England were briliant yesterday by the way they were going on at half time.
Muppets.

They are the cringey cunts.

Has someone here written that they're no longer supporting the team? I don't know anyone who has personally. But, as a nation of grumpy cunts, we have the right to groan about our lacklustre performances and manager.

Koundé got MOTM because Tchouameni passed to him a lot?

You must have arms like Mr Tickle with a reach like that!

Obviously not ONLY because. But the attacking pattern was to overload the left with Mbappé and Hernández and if it was blocked to play back to Tchouameni who would ping 30m passes across to Koundé in space.

This is how we created multiple chances including a Thuram header and a couple of other good opportunities.

It's embarrassing, anyone who says anything bad about his beloved Woolwich, he cries like a little girl. Even other Woolwich fans have been asking what's happened to Rice. but this one blows smoke up his arse more than anyone

Criticise Saka and see what happens.:ange-facepalm:
Rice has been awful this tournament.

Silly question from a newbie: Is it usual to let other team’s fans (especially Woolwich fans) post here — even in the international football section?

"Multiple chances" is a Thuram header and "a couple of other good opportunities?"

A couple?

Mate...

You want me to rewatch the match? You’re fighting over nothing. His distribution both with cross field passes, turning interceptions into first time passes and more general distribution out from defence have all been excellent.

The fact I’m not giving you minuted references of every pass doesn’t change that.
