Ex-Spurs Player Giovani Lo Celso

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

But let’s drop that’s as it’s a player thread not ‘who would we replace him with’ or ‘who should we have instead with a hindsight’ thread

I don't have a desire to have anyone instead of him, I want a healthy GLC but it isn't crazy to suggest that we need to look at his injury history and wonder if he will ever be healthy enough to play for us.

Best case scenario is that he is and we add those guys to play with him, but there are legitimate concerns that he won't ever be healthy enough.

Do you reckon Mourinho will consistently play those three together? That's the dream, but the defensive duties will constrain one of TN and GLC at least, I suppose.

He always said it was a matter of fitness.

Ndombele is now fit enough in Mourinhos eyes to be able to play alongside Hojbjerg in a two - down to Lo Celso to get fit now (Though, I imagine he'd still play all 3 regardless, especially if Lamela/Dele can be the alternative)

But how has Sessegnons profile increased with those glorious night in Belgrade? He even scored against Bayern.
We just are not seen as a good option for easy next step in a career and that’s a fact.
It won’t change for better if we start selling and replacing everyone who dares and gets a work place injury.

I hope you are right but the fitness thing always seems like a BS excuse Jose was using.

I also doubt this style will last once we are beat by Everton and City and that Jose will that as an excuse to go back to super negative football that he loves.

I doubt that we will see it, but fingers crossed.

Are you responding to me?

Sessegnon was a 19 year old with questions about where he would play when he came here. He is in a much different spot than Eze. But if we are making direct comparisons how has Zaha's experience been with Palace? Not awesome.

Spurs puts more players on England than any midlevel team, same goes for other big 6 teams. Maybe he doesn't care about that but if he does much more likely he makes if from Spurs than Palace.

But if your overall point is that going to Palace is more preferable than going to Spurs we are doing something wrong.

It is debatable whether or not he is better than Bergwijn, I think Bergwijn before coming here was equal or better, but since coming here has not been better at all. Whether that he is because of him, Jose or a combination it is tough to say.

But Eze over Bergwijn helps us in a few ways. One he is HG, two were are talking about replacing GLC and Eze plays in the middle, Bergwijn maybe could, but shouldn't play in that role. Eze is a better passer/creative which is what we are currently really lacking in the team.

But I am fine having both in the line-up so not sure why we need to compare the two.

I am as big a GLC fan as there is on this site but a. it isn't dumping him and b. it isn't a two month injury, He struggled with injuries last season and now this year as well. These aren't freak breaks but recurrent muscles injuries that make it more concerning.

Son breaking his arm likely isn't happening again, but guys who are consistently having issues with their groin/hamstrings to have those problems over and over again. That is where my concern comes from. Ideally he heals and never has the problem again but over two seasons and multiple issues that never seem to fully heal is concerning.
Eze is just the new flavor of the month i have seen thousands of these players come to nothing he is not even the dominant force in the team zaha is.

My point is it’s most likely he would not have a chance to prove himself and play odd cup game eventually ending up in a place Vinicius is now.
Again, what would give him confidence of getting in front of N’Dombele, Lo Celso, Dele Alli, Son, Bale and the rest all seasoned international players, for a regular spot in league games and a freedom of expressing himself and not just performing some kind of role for 10 minutes.
Let’s leave it here now.
Good player of course and I would love to have him here too.

He is an example. why some always have to latch on to specific guys as though it makes some sort of point. He is an example of a guy that we could have added that isn't world class but could improve us.

As for your assessment, I mean he has been very good so far for Palace, if there are thousands of players like that awesome, but disappointing that we couldn't get any of them and instead are using crap like Moura, Lamela, Winks and Sissoko instead.

Well in my scenario he would be replacing GLC so likely he could get in ahead of him. Also Bale and Alli rarely play so good chance he gets in ahead of them. No need to play ahead of Nedombele because he could start alongside him or fill in when Ndombele is out.

If your point is that we, more specifically Jose, doesn't use players correctly then you are right but we were talking about getting in a replacement for GLC that isn't world class. We can do that. if Jose doesn't play them then we should look at getting rid of Jose not stop adding good players.

There is no such scenario as we have just signed Lo Celso. The player we replaced is Eriksen. Let’s not forget we have more important issues elsewhere on the pitch and are not exactly known for splashing money to create Man City like squads of endless quality and keeping them happy by paying a lot. So let’s what happens when Lo Celso is back

Hold on the conversation started from this post:

We won’t buy a world class player like he has the raw talent to be so we must gamble on him overcoming fitness issues and becoming very good if it’s in a year or a couple.

I was saying we don't have to buy a world class player to replace him, so yes there is a scenario.

Again I want to keep him. I like him as a player and we need more players like him rather than less, but ignoring his injury history is silly. Hoping he gets back to health is risky.

There is also a factor related to the FB's.

Jose is yet to play Ndombele deeper, next to Hojbjerg, with Reguilón also in the team - in this case, both FB's would be playing really high up the pitch.

Until now, Jose played the French deeper (or Lo Celso, before him) when we had Ben Davies in the team and/or when he decided for a back 3 - for example, in our last 3 PL games before West Brom; I think the main reason was still to protect Ndombele.

The good news is that Jose seems to be confident, as you mentioned, in having Ndombele playing deeper from now on. Maybe, when Reguilón returns, we'll have a much more offensive and creative side after all - at least in some games, anyway.

Reguilón bombing forward, Hojbjerg bossing midfield battles; Ndombele and Lo Celso, Sonny and Kane. This is a spine of a really good team. We need a strong signing to play behind them, at the heart of our defence.
