Player James Maddison

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Agree with this. Grealish & Maddison are two players with a lot more senior games as professionals, with an ability to deal with a low-block. They're also two of the biggest pricks in the team, which is no bad thing. Even the same with Maguire to an extent. Southgate wants to win with the choir. Think we're going to find it hard, especially with Kane's back issues.
Kane's back issues? I didn't know about this...

Why the hell does Maupay hate Maddison so much? All I know is he took the piss with the darts celebration when he scored for Brentford against us. Bizarre.

Maybe there's something from back when Madders played for Leicester? If not then Maupay is a loon.

He's a massive bell-end........ Has to troll to endear himself to his club's fans cos his goal-tally is shite.

5 years / 160 EPL apps = 33 goals.

I wasn't that upset to learn that he had been axed, as he can have a decent rest and recovery time to start next season like he started the last.
He wasn't at his best when he returned from injury and, in his defence, he was always a target of many a crafty ankle "tap" which didn't even get a foul, let alone a yellow card.
Enjoy your holiday Madders, and use this to kick on next year.

And yet Chavs biggest issues this season were against low-block sides, a system we will be facing against almost all our opponents. Grealish profile is better suited than Palmer vs low-blocks. I acknowledge he’s out of form.

They played the king of low blocks in an Dyche led Everton very recently and he was absolutely sensational, scoring a hat-trick.

Palmer has been unreal this season. Struggles against low-blocks are a coaching issue and a finishing issue, Chelsea had a very high xG across the season. Palmer laid chances on a plate repeatedly, he is a highly creative footballer.

Makes a lot of sense so far, although I would have taken Grealish, purely on the basis that he's got a fair bit of experience vs those younger "inform" players likely to take his place. Whilst I think Palmer is good, take away his 9 penalties this year would he still be worthy of a place??? Seeing as we are likely to be playing up against low-blocks this summer, is he the one to unpick them? On evidence at Chelsea, it would appear his skill set isn't best suited to low-block defences.

But this is ifs/buts and maybe's and there is logic to the ommitions. Not to have Maguire running into his own players or playing as if he's tied his shoelaces together is a massive plus. Just makes you wonder why he was included all this time and why we didn't look to bed in the players going in his place.
Gary loves Maguire and said he would defo have gone. Just imagine a back 4 of walker, stones(semi fit), Maguire ( too slow but never lets England down) and tripps at lb. That left hand side would have been slaughtered. Why some players get afforded the ‘ never lets England down’ and other do is beyond me. Rashford has played well for England. He scored a hatrick in last WC then makes forcretirning sterling v France I think in the QF. This is boregate all over. Could he not find another English fit LB.
Also these players he says never let England down well they have as they have come up short every time. Yet he doesn’t think other players might be better than what he picks.

My only real issue is in defence, I don't know the numbers but they've hardly played together and it shows in games. I think Rashford is utter gash, always have bar his first year and a bit when breaking through for Utd. To Southgate's credit, no other coach gets better out of him, he's a confidence player and Garry feeds that to him in spades, when in form Rashford is a hit-and-hope player, he takes lots of shots from all over the pitch, some of them go in, and Southgate has allowed him to do this. All of Rashfords good spells at club level happen immediately following playing for Southgate regularly. But I'm delighted he not in the team.
