It wasn't just that though.

Everyone forgets Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold, who have both turned into (arguably) the best full backs in Europe. Bought for peanuts.

They spotted young talent *and* compounded it with experience. We should have done that in 2016/17.

Isn't a window consisting of Dav, Aurier & Llorente an example of such a blueprint?

If we are going to go for a defensive type midfielder, then I want Spurs to aim a lot higher than fucking Holberg or wherever his name is. Much rather wait until the summer and spend big money on a top class holding midfielder. A striker is a much bigger priority right now with Kane out the whole season. It will be a complete shambles if we don’t sign a striker.

The Willian Jose situation is weird because he's 28. That's not ideal, but he's not Giroud (33). We can probably get him for relatively low wages (he's on £47,500/wk now) for 4.5 years (his current contract is through June 2024) and it really wouldn't be an huge concern.

We are £9m apart - bump it up to £16.8m (€20m), give him a bump to £60k/wk. That's £30m total between transfer and wages. If we actually rotate Kane and use him it will be worth it.

My only issue with this chap, and I say it as someone who has never seen him play, is whether or not he's good enough.

I don't want any more players that 'can do a job'. We've had them for fucking decades. I only want us to sign genuinely excellent players that we would want, regardless of our injury situation.

I do get the Llorente comparison, and I liked that tall handsome bastard, but that sort of signing still speak to us just waiting for Harry to come back and then flogging him like a dead horse again. We need an excellent second striker that we might even choose to play, when Harry is fit.
