I would not be against a loan deal with an option to buy - but if Brighton really can't use him it sound strange if Spurs will help developing their players...

If true (and this rumour has been floating around for a few days now) I do not get this at all. Regardless of whether I rate him (of which I don't know as I've not paid him loads of attention and he hasn't blown me away when I have seen him) Why would he come here to be on our bench rather than stay on Brighton's or go somewhere else and get more football?

Why do no other clubs need painful rebuilds that see them lose 50% of their matches? We're not some plucky underdogs we're one of the richest football clubs on the planet.

No competent rebuild with such huge resources at its disposal should be this painful.

Chelsea is probably the closest recent example. Not plucky underdogs, one of the riches football clubs on the planet. At the midpoint of last season Chelsea were 7W-4D-8L for 25 points, 11th place with a +2 GD. Compare Spurs this season 7W-3D-9L for 24 points, 11th place and +13GD. And Chelsea had built a much bigger squad so were less vulnerable to injury crises and dud recruits. But it was still a painful rebuild for them. They're doing much better this season and have good momentum and age profile going into 2025/26. If Poch had stayed on I'd imagine they'd be doing just as well.

I think Spurs will build momentum in the second half of this season and be much stronger next season.

I don't even know that Tottenham is an ideal stepping stone club for anyone anymore- unless jailbroken with a giant fee, most players just seems to sort of collect here due to their large wages (too larged to return to lower leagues), and slowly stagnate until walking on a free or cut-price transfer.

I think that’s symptomatic of having owners that historically haven’t prioritised a winning culture

The "new" model maybe, but ironically, ENIC were a pioneer of multi club ownership/investment weren't they. Had major stakes in Rangers, Slavia Prague, AEK Athens, Vicenza, Basel.
I think you have misunderstood. The convo/context was about UEFA's u-turn to allow clubs owned by the same owner to play in the same UEFA comp.

It was actually a ruling against ENIC prior to buying us that put the "no two teams with the same owners can play in the same UEFA comp" rule in place when AEK Athens and Slavia Pargue qualified for the same comp in the 1999/2000 season (link below to the ruling).

The above should have closed the door on the issue, but Red Bull managed to open it again.

My bad, I didn't read further back in the replies.

From fan on BBC website on Kinsky:

"As a (completely unbiased) Slavia season ticket holder, I can tell you that Spurs have got a bargain. “Tonda” has been amazing for us - he’s excellent with both feet and the calmest man in the stadium when under pressure. In the league, Slavia have only conceded 7 goals in 19 games. He’s top class although he may find his new defensive team mates aren’t quite as good as he is used to"
When did Slavia Prague fans start looking down on our team? Holy moly.

I’d be surprised if we saw both of them in the squad next season. Also doesn’t look like Dorrington is ready or trusted, as I’m more likely to see minutes than he is this season.

Leaves us with Romero, VDV, Drag, an ageing Ben and a youngster. If this season has taught us anything, it’s that 2 or 3 will be out at any one time. Means we need 6, so we should be signing 1 or 2 at least.
If we have 6 CB’s in the squad with none being CT, that means out of a squad of 21 ex. CT (17 Johnny Foreigner + 4 HG non-CT) we will have
2 GK + 2 CT
6 CB

Leaving 13 squad spaces to cover 8 positions (2x FB, 3xMid, 3xAtt). That is one unbalanced squad!

Edit: apologies AberdeenYid AberdeenYid I’m just catching up on the thread and see this has been done to death in subsequent posts. No need to respond 🙏

I haven’t seen Cardoso but my understanding was he wasn’t the answer for us?

I haven't seen much of him either but from reading about him from those (Spurs fans) who have seen him a lot, he doesn't look like a player Spurs need. He seem to be a bit erratic performance wise and Betis play a double DM system (Cardoso & Sergi Altimira) while Angelos plays with 1 DM.

Betis is set to loan DM Stefan Bajcetic from Liverpool - as there are rumours that Betis may sell Sergi Altimira (one many former La Masia products) to an EPL club.
