Watched the second half before bed last night, I hadn't heard that Japhet went off on a stretcher. Looks like it could be a bit serious, I really hope he's not too badly hurt.

Thought he was okay yesterday and has good potential, but needs to stay fit and play 25 games next year, whoever it's for. More of a future for him at CB, he doesn't really have any crossing ability. Could be really good at the right of a back three imo.

Yeah I don't think he's suited to right back. He can do a job there but wouldn't like him to be down as one of our starting right backs, he is definitely better suited as a CB.
Hopefully the injury isn't too serious🤞

Flaming nora, we are jinxed, make no bones about it. Japhet was one of the few who put some effort in on Wednesday. Let's hope he's ok for the start of next season.

Missing pre-season is a massive issue, will take him a long time to reach decent condition. This is the second preseason in a row he will have missed and it could really hold him back if the new manager doesn’t get to see much of him early on.

Hopefully he recovers quicker than expected.

New manager means he'll probably miss out on quite a bit too, might have to put in a it of work depending on if we bring Foyth back and a new CB in.

Personally though, I'm starting to think Japh might have it in him to move up to a Defensive midfielder. Strong, decent on the ball, loves a good tackle and isn't afraid of putting his body on the line. And most importantly would run through a brick fucking wall for Tottenham, not because someone has asked him to, but because he loves the club and wants us to love him back

I say Give him a few 1 on 1 sessions with PEH and see what he can do.

Completely disagree.

just doesn’t have that 360 vision to play there - still think CB for me, one of his best assets is his last ditch defending/the will to block and stop

I think physically he isn’t suited to being a CB. He’s not that big and he’s also prone to switching off on crosses, I prefer him on the right. He’s limited going forward but he’s very strong in duels and there’s nothing wrong with having a more defensive option at RB.

I see him as a bit like Azpilicueta, can play as a CB in a 3 man defence but otherwise better playing as a full back.

That’s fair... all good with a defensive full back with stellar recovery who defends at all costs

centre mid? A whole different story, bad even enough with basic PEH

He is very limited at RB because of his inability to go forward and have the speed to get back, his only ok passing and dribbling ability and zero crossing ability. Maybe he can improve on some of these things if he is more focused on being a RB but it is hard to ever see him being anything more than ok going forward.

As a back-up defensive specialist RB that would be fine and he could certainly have a role with the team but I am not sure that is the level of player we would want as a starting RB.

At CB he might also max out as a squad guy but I think he at least has the potential to develop into a starting CB.

Moving him to DM is a non-starter for me and pretty silly idea.

It would only work if we had a solid CB pairing behind him as well, I'm thinking along the lines of when Dier played with Toby and Jan behind him.

He wouldn't be able to play there if he had to rely on Sanchez and Dier behind him.
