Make-or-break summer ahead?
I just hope that when Jose sat down with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy before Pochettino was sacked there was a conversation between them that went along the lines of 'if I am going to be here, I want to be here for a long period of time to build something and I need your backing to get the players in that I need and get the players out that I want out'.

For too long now, the lack of planning and their inactive nature in the market has cost Tottenham. This is a massive summer ahead for them. Massive. Hopefully, they are on the same wavelength in terms of what they need and what Jose wants.

In my eyes, Jose is not a manager who challenges for the top four. You get him in to win a title or the league. The club have to look at themselves and ask what is the point of bringing Jose in if they are not going to give him the artillery he needs to go and get the job done.

I would hope come the summer he is given everything that he needs. He obviously cannot go and buy everybody but the club needs to bend far more than it did for Pochettino - they should have given him what he deserved.

If that conversation happened and Jose doesn't get what he wants, I only see this ending in tears.
It does have that feeling of tear stained pillow about it.

Really someone telling JM who he should buy and he has got to put up with it. His name is not Pochettino !

he’s talked about willing to work with one. It was Poch who didn’t want to and wanted more control over transfers. Looking at who he brought in when wanting certain players I’m pretty pissed off he was given any control at all. Poch’s transfer record is terribly poor.

The biggest problem in the summer is lack of foreign trained spaces in our squad. Presumably Verts will go opening up 1 space and Wanyama who is not in the CL spots anyway although not a problem if we do not qualify. English trained spaces are difficult to fill as Premiership teams nowadays do not need the money and all the top teams chase the few available.

We will never know who suggested Ndombele.
Lo Celso is coming good.
Sess the panel is still out - looks a lightweight like Walker-Peters.
My point is do you REALLY think that JM would take the job just as a coach who gets players bought by others? He has been landed with several players who are well below par. Biggest test might be getting a refund on Ndombele!

Poch wanted Ndombele didn’t he, it was pretty well documented over the summer. It’s looking like a poor signing so far. I’d sell him if we could get our money back. Whilst he’s immensely talented, it’s no use to us in 20 minute bursts. He’s just a version of Taraabt at the moment!

I thought Mourinho wanted his mate from Lille Campos in? Jose Mourinho says it is not his decision if Tottenham hire Luis Campos as director of football

I read an article the other day when he was at Inter and the type of players he identified he wanted them to buy. So maybe he hasn’t always operated under one.

I agree with most of what you say except that Ndombele is as mobile as Taraabt!!

Is there any club in the league that in the entire squad has 1 LB, 1 RB, 1 CF and no DM? The lack of depth is astounding

The whole squad doesn't have 1 LB, 1 RB, 1 CF and no DM though does it?

It has bodies, maybe not top notch ones but it does have bodies.

LB options - Davies, Vertonghen, Tanganga, Sessegnon

RB options - Aurier, Foyth, Tanganga, Dier

DM options - Dier, Winks, Skipp

CF options - Kane, Son

People forget that Foyth was playing RB for Argentina in the Copa America, Vertonghen can play a part like shown when we hammered Borussia Dortmund when he was LB last season, 3-0, Dier played RB during his first season with us in spells and that Sonny had a record of 6 goals in 5 games prior to his injury.

As I have said not excellent or specialists in said positions but depth no doubt. It depends how you see things I guess. We need upgrades and a few moves to freshen thing up but we are covered in 75% of our needs if push comes to shove so I don't understand why people say we aren't.

If Kane or Sonny were fit, the tone of most would be extremely different right now. TLC on DM please, its needing a lot of attention that I will give you.

Good points made by JJ. It would be good to hear others thoughts on investment required to do what we hope JM can. Scott my man, how much do you think is required and realistic for Levy to give Jose this summer? Do you have an idea of what positions and how many we require? Imask you because sometimes we are at opposite ends of the spectrum regarding our thoughts pal.

Investment isn't the problem ... we spent 220m in the last two windows ... the issues are twofold getting better players than we have to sign and getting players we don't want to leave.

We are bound as are all clubs by EPL rules, there are some exceptions but the gist is:

The Premier League requires a maximum of 17 non-"homegrown" players in each club squad, and the squad size is a maximum of 25. This means that in a full squad of 25 players, there must be at least eight homegrown players.

This is a decent explanation: New Premier League Squad Rules Explained

We have the maximum foreign players so we need to sell and replace or buy British ... the problem is that every EPL club is doing the same so buying British is crazy expensive ...

Our current EPL list of 25 is actually only 20 but it contains the maximum 17 non-homegrown .... Toby Alderweireld, Dele Alli, Serge Aurier, Steven Bergwijn, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, Paulo Gazzaniga, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, Erik Lamela, Hugo Lloris, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Lucas Moura, Davinson Sanchez, Moussa Sissoko, Jan Vertonghen, Michel Vorm, Victor Wanyama, Harry Winks.

the list is supported by U21's which for us includes Enock Asante, Brandon Austin, J'Neil Bennett, Luis Binks, Jamie Bowden, Eddie Carrington, Gedson Fernandes, Kallum Cesay, Dennis Cirkin, Jack Clarke, Rayan Clarke, Chay Cooper, Matthew Craig, Michael Craig, Jonathan De Bie, Yago Santiago, Jonathan Dinzeyi, Kion Etete, Timothy Eyoma, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Juan Foyth, Tariq Hinds, Nile John, Kacper Kurylowicz, Jeremy Kyezu, Thimothee Lo-Tutala, Dermi Lusala, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, Dilan Markanday, George Marsh, Marqes Muir, Jeremie Mukendi, Romaine Mundle, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Jubril Okedina, Oluwaferanmi Oluwayemi,Troy Parrott, Phoenix Patterson, Rafferty Pedder, Maurizio Pochettino, Rodel Richards, Jack Roles, Ryan Sessegnon, Armando Shashoua, Aaron Skinner, Oliver Skipp, Isak Solberg, Maxwell Statham, Kazaiah Sterling, Maximus Tainio, Japhet Tanganga, Elliot Thorpe, Shilow Tracey, Harvey White, Alfie Whiteman, Tarrelle Whittaker.

So who goes? Vertongen? Wanyama probably and we get a CB and a much ended DCM ... but if they are both foreign then that's the squad allocation already full .... what about a striker or FB are we limited to British only, or do we buy a British CB/DCM and a foreign striker?

Do we sell Mours or Lamela for an upgrade? who? bearing in mind with a fit Kane and Son they are bench players anyway ... do we sell Aurier for an upgrade? who?

Point is you can't just buy another four or five foreign superstars and expect to play them, the rules simply don't allow it .... whatever the dreamers on here might think it's not just about the money it's also about working with the rules.

My guess would be two big foreign names out and two in with an experienced defender and an experienced defensive midfielder, plus a young striker (at least one of these signings would need to qualify as homegrown) ... anything else would be based on one in one out ... net spend maybe 100m?

LB, RB, CB, DM & ST. Probably a new keeper too but lloris will do for another season as 5 players is a lot to bring in. I think we both like ajax's keeper. Probably looking at 200-250m. Its tricky because we could back mourinho with all that & then ge does crap. We pay him off & sack him. Then a new guy comes in & doesn't want/like most of mourinho's signings. But if we dont back him we will continue playing poorly. Levy & enic have left us in such a mess now. I guess if levy/ENIC really feel mourinho is the man for us, then they have to back him. For the record I think he was a bad choice but with the players we have, even klopp or pep wouldn't get us challenging for titles.

My other worry is us thinking we don't need another striker if son & kane are both fit in the summer. We only were in for a striker due to kane's injury.

Or we could grow our own UK players a lot more.

Very much the plan ... we are spending a lot of time and money on every age group from 8 upwards ... don't expect miracles but certainly a few more than in the last twenty years ... having the best facilities, in particular the Lodge means we can wine and dine the families of kids we want ... it's either this

facilities do help, but its also about the coaching you are getting, said the stories from my experience with kids football on here before.
with 3/4 days a week training I would expect these kids (academy) to standout in school football but not many do
