Ex-Spurs Player Matt Doherty

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It’s more about the series of events that led up to it. First announcing he was going out on loan to Atheltico, only to then cancel his contract because we realised we had too many players out on loan.

Now I’m more than happy to admit I’m wrong if I got the series of tweets out of order, but even then it doesn’t change the perception of it. I’ve copped a lot of shit over this from mates today. It doesn’t really bother me, but it does go to show that the wider perception of this is that the club doesn’t know what it’s doing if they can’t even keep track of the amount of players they’ve got on loan.

You and other are spot on though, you can’t slag a guy off for being shit and not worthy of being in the squad, and then have a tantrum when the club terminates his contract.
We are fed tit-bits on an hourly basis about contract negs, 99% all utter bollocks. Fans spend far to much time reviewing this space. The order in which they are communicated is just as random.

The transfer window(s) is the wild west, with shysters in every corner when an opportunity arises that's good for the Club you take it. I think we've achieved this in this deal.

I think this deal is excellent, a massive upgrade has been achieved in this position. (We've got rid of a truly shit player and replaced him with a far superior player - let's hope he settles in this side and does when Conte wants him to do). I don't give two fucks about him, he barely played, made zero impact on our squad, didn't have a song, and was a gooner.

Some absolute plebs posting in here, calling the club, Levy, Paratici etc shit for getting rid of a player that we no longer need and no one else really wants. Everyone keeps moaning about us needing to clear out the squad.

No one would pay £15 million for this wazzock, no one would pay £10 million, at a push we might have got £5 million and that's exactly what has happened (actually just over £8 million, see the post from Guido 🇺🇦 Guido 🇺🇦 on Doherty's amortisation in the accounts).

The fact that the player left by mutual consent means we don't have to pay off the remainder of his contract.

This is a great deal for the club and the player.

I think some people (not digging anybody in particular here I've not read all through this thread) are so blinded by their hatred of Emerson that they're overlooking just how shit Doherty has performed for this club. I've never seen a full back play so many passes inside that go to the opposition than what I've seen him do over the last few years. Atleast like at Fulham Emerson can be solid and do the basics of a full back role and defend competently. £15m bargain buy that we got 0 value from.

Doherty was one if the worst players i have ever seen in a Spurs shirt. The club offload him saving £80k a week in wages and replace him with a top quality player and we are still not happy.

What the fuck has happened to our fanbase.

His only claim to fame imv was that he was a better WB than Royal who was the better FB

the people moaning about us dropping Doherty need to get a fucking grip, lighten up, stop being a miserable twat.

I saw a post on Insta that called the dropping of Doherty ‘disgraceful’ and it received almost 200 likes! What the actual f*** is going through some peoples heads?!

I think it’s partly to do with young people losing a grip over the English language, do they understand that ‘disgrace’ is an extreme word?? Is their vocabulary so limited that everything must be communicated in extremes? Or is it because extreme language gets interactions? Either way it’s really annoying.

Do we even know if we had to pay him off? Quite likely that he wanted the move and Atlético offered him the same wage so no need for compensation.
Im sure we didnt have to pay him off. They will pay him wages and probably a longer contract than 18 months, so just an amicable seya later from both sides.

Doherty is out and Porro is in, so its worked out even if the way it was done involved unnecessary drama.

Our Season is finished…

What a mess we got ourselves into.

The management and transfer team need to know that in football, 1+1 is not equal to 2. A team is not built on the accumulative quality but the bonding, chemistry and familiarity of tactics of the team!

By offloading Matt to make room for a new player, this is just messing up the camaraderie, teamwork, friendship, chemistry that had been built painstakingly over the years!

Not to say we can’t do that. Of course, players come and go. But… to do it in this manner, last minutes decision (loan to mutual termination) just smack of disregard of what makes a team work and I am pretty sure the other players remaining in the team won’t be happy about it

Calm down FFS.... This is Matt Doherty; not Ledley King or Kane.

Time and time again we see that players just shrug their shoulders over the exit of their colleagues........

Doherty has traded in a 3rd choice RWB role here for a punt at La Liga in the 3rd biggest club in the league during the twilight of his career.... He's landed on his feet and the lads are probably thinking "good for him".

I have no strong feelings about Doherty leaving.

Decent guy; did OK before his injury last season.

Clearly wasn't what Conte wanted.

Honest but limited player.

Good luck to him.
