AgreeDo we even know if we had to pay him off? Quite likely that he wanted the move and Atlético offered him the same wage so no need for compensation.
He could have trousered a signing on fee too

Jorge Mendes might be the GOAT footy agentNo offense Matty, but those are strong "competition winner" vibes
I agree with all of this except the outcome is that we are lumbered with Sess and Royal. Doherty whilst not amazing has had his moments in attack and better delivery than both. Would much rather him as cover for Porro and PerisicIt wasn't until he hired Conte that he put in what can be described as a decent performance, 1.5yrs after we signed him!! And they numbered no more than approx 5 games!! This is the very definition of shit. We've been trying to offload him, not a single sniff. He's 31yrs old, his contract is not up until Aug 2024, and he's almost worthless (through amortisation we've written off approx £8,125,000 so he stands us in at just under £5m, which means we couldn't even get Atleti to pay that for him!!!). This is good by the club, be ruthless and don't let dross like him be a millstone around our necks, because not getting rid means we won't bring in any new.
Hyperbole, it’s way overrated!the people moaning about us dropping Doherty need to get a fucking grip, lighten up, stop being a miserable twat.
I saw a post on Insta that called the dropping of Doherty ‘disgraceful’ and it received almost 200 likes! What the actual f*** is going through some peoples heads?!
I think it’s partly to do with young people losing a grip over the English language, do they understand that ‘disgrace’ is an extreme word?? Is their vocabulary so limited that everything must be communicated in extremes? Or is it because extreme language gets interactions? Either way it’s really annoying.
Emerson is just better than Doherty (hence why he gets selected time and time again over him). He's a significantly better defender and contributes more down the entire flank enabling us better balance. Doherty was marginally better than Emerson higher up the pitch, but really there's not a great deal in it, especially considering Royal has the legs to get back when our attacks break down. We can and perhaps should upgrade him but he'll have a say in this season as Porro's backup (we are still in a good position to challenge for 4th, still in FA Cup and in CL), he has an understanding of what Conte requires of the position.I agree with all of this except the outcome is that we are lumbered with Sess and Royal. what a load of nonsense lol.Emerson is just better than Doherty (hence why he gets selected time and time again over him). Doherty was one if the worst players i have ever seen in a Spurs shirt. The club offload him saving £80k a week in wages and replace him with a top quality player and we are still not happy.
What the fuck has happened to our fanbase.
The fact that the player left by mutual consent means we don't have to pay off the remainder of his contract.
This is a great deal for the club and the player.
How on earth do you value him at £15m!!!??? We paid £13m for him 2.5yrs ago!! He was worse for us than he was at Wolves. A genuinely awful player to watch, it wasn't until Conte came in did he turned in any performances considered "good" and this was just a short run of approx 5 games post-Christmas last year then he got injured at Villa. Came back this season and has been shit. He's not that shit that we write off 15m or whatever he was worth... Odd one
If you want to take a personal swipe at someone at least make sure you get it right. I've never said Hugo is good with his feet, in fact quite the opposite, on this site at least I think I was the first to point out how poor he was with his feet (not long after we bought him), needless to say, I copped a lot of shit for that but nearly 10yrs latter we are where we are now!!!! So please do fuck off.what a load of nonsense lol.
you're the one that was posting kicking stats for lloris and thinking that made him good with his feet. so its expected i suppose. here is some proper stats for ya, ones that actually matter and cant be twisted.

newcastle 5-1..doc goal

aston villa 4-0...the game he gets taken out
next two games, lose to brighton and draw to brentford! so in contes BEST ever run of form doc started every game! losing 1 and winning 6. 25-5 on agg over 7 games.... he was a massive reason for this. so how the fuck can you watch games and think emerson is a better player? emerson will never be RWB for a team on that sort of form.
Royal has 0 footballing brain whatsoever.
He don't know how to cross, how to move ball quickly and this season is also stepped past quite easiliy.
Truth is, Doherty is better defender and better at supporting the attack.
Royal stayed ahead of him because Conte is biased as fuck.
