So we're waiting on Eric Pickles to make a decision?

Perhaps we should re present our case in the form of a menu then maybe he'll move away from dealing with his big pressing issues like

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pol...-for-darkness-overruled-on-street-lights.html

Based on that I won't hold my breath for any kind of quick conclusion. I mean it's been "on his desk" for what, a year now?

"Minister for Darkness"? Sounds like him and Levy should be best buddies :levywhoa:

So City have been fined £50m & restricted amount they can spend in the summer

That'll hurt 'em .

Ffp won't work , the way the windows fall in relation to the tax years ending will always mean that teams will be one step ahead & the mega rich can pay fines . Yup the next step is banning them from competitions but Uefa are more interested in getting ££ than doing that. I'd be amazed if any (big) team gets banned.

Sorry for the slightly Ot of the post

It's very simple why they can't "overtake" us financially in the Olympic Stadium.
IT'S NOT THERE'S, and never will be.
Simples.
I lived in Avenons Road just down the road from the bow legged stadium in the late 90s to 2002. Make no mistake, they are well supported locally and could easily fill a 40,000/45,000 stadium. I don't think their heart will be in it once they see how far from the action they are going to be. I think a couple of seasons will confirm this, if they get relegated, forget it. It's a shame really, because the locals are/ were alright. Every club has its darker element and we are no exception.
West Ham, just like Tottenham don't rely on the local population for its core support. As far as West Ham are concerned they don't have a Joe Lewis/Daniel Levy to look after them, just a couple of porn barons and a hard faced feminist.
How the fuck does that set up work. I guess we will find out when the OS debacle goe's tits up.

Gonna piss myself when I see their faces when half of them can't even see the players. No stadium with a running track has ever worked well as a football stadium, the atmosphere is dreadful. All the hammers have is atmosphere, shit football, crap palyers and now probably a dead stadium, so glad we did not get that place.

Hi Tomo, just to point out we never wanted the OS as it stands. Our plan was to knock it down and build a proper stadium. Unfortunately, it seemed such a plan was doomed from the outset. Arguably this delayed us pressing on with the Tottenham site, hard to prove though.

The poor design of the OS for football may hamper the Hammers, but IF they get a Billionaire Benefactor in, then they can afford to get proper players in, who will be playing for the money and trophies not the atmosphere.

It's very much in the balance ATM for West Ham. But while they stayed in the Boleyn, they weren't going to be a threat to us, because it was unlikely a BB would come in for them there. The OS might be their downfall or the start of something big for them. They're unlikely to match Chelsea and City such has been the spectacular nature of their success, but they could easily start to overtake us, such has been the lack of success for us under ENIC, and indeed Sugar.

Interesting argument, what ever happens to West Ham, the current form of OS is death to football, unless you get a seat right on the touchline the game is being played somwhere else, Running track stadium have a history of being appaling, the old Wembley was just awful.

If West Ham do get a benificator that will still take maybe 3-4 years to take over us as they have basically no top 4 players so they would need to buy a new team, get a new manager and build a system. It would give us time, that's why I keep saying that the manager we get now is the most important thing for us as our sqaud is very strong and not performing to it's potential. A world class striker and a left back and we are looking pretty sweet if we can get it done. If somehow we get top 4 next season (I think maybe 5th is more realistic) and allow our team to develop maybe we can start to compete again with the top sides. It was only 2 years ago that Redknapp had us right near the top so it is possible.

I really dont see Greaves point to be honest....could say the same about any team in the world "if they get a billionaire take over, they will overtake us...."

First up, its not even true...West Ham have already had major owners...it set them back years in the end.

And how did it go for Pompey and QPR....?

Depends on what the owners intentions are. If they are criminals looking to use the UK as a bolt hole for when they get booted/killed in their countries of origin and spash out the money to make themselves look good like Abramovich or the oil dictators then we are in trouble. Any other type of owner will make little difference unless they are American in which case they will probably riinse the club dry.

And this is why I have no idea why Greaves thinks the OS has any relevance to them surpassing us.....could say the same for Villa or Swansea if the right buyer comes in....whats all the panic?

Id ask him but he doesnt talk to me

Hi Tomo, whatever happens I agree in the short term we're safe from West Ham. As I say I worry for future generations if they are stuck with us being the 4th club in London. I'll be dead or close on, before it happens, so it's not so much my problem. Even so, just seeing West Ham edge closer, would make my last days less enjoyable. Then again, maybe football won't be so important to me then.

Re the old Wembley, I used to love it, running track or not, to me it was far better than the new Wembley. The atmosphere and history surrounding the place, the walk up Wembley Way, the towers beckoning you forward to glory. I'll never forget my first final there 71, against Villa, 100,000 there, the flags, the sight of so many Spurs together v so many Villa together. Awesome. We won as well, always helps :) May have not been the best view, though Chiv got both down our end IIRC, and I saw them fine, but what a day out.:coys:

Fandabbydoozie indeed.

Greaves seems to be under the impression that, with a fat stadium in the bag Wham are only a billionaire away from winning the league next season because billionaires throwing money at clubs is the way forward.

I suppose (and I am guessing) he is refering to the fact that City and Chelsea historically are much smaller teams than us and through huge sums of money and time have over taken us. I suppose Liverpool and Woolwich prove that you can fight with the money men as long as you have a good board, decent manager and a high capacity stadium ( I know Liverpool still need to sort the stadium out).

Kind of going off track here is there is no billionaire deterrant, the Man City £50m fine, which will probably be whittled down shows that if the investor is prepared to swallow the fine then the fairplay rules are frankly meaningless. The biggest problem is not West Ham's potential growth, it's that Fairplay rules mean very little.

What it means is that any league club can be bought by a billionaire and it can have expenditure far in advance of any money it could make and there might be penalties but you can still mount a serious Premier League & Champions League challenge and as long as you're prepared to pick up the tab with the authorities at the end of the season then you still have carte blanche.

Fair play should mean that City lose the Premier League title and are excluded from the CL next year that would do a death blow to the billionaire gangster bollocks.

On a wider scale it would affect PSG and Monaco too, on a lighter note isn't it good to see Athletico won the league in Spain with a lower playing budget than QPR?

I think the QPR budget has been overplayed. Most of their really big earners were shipped out on loan or cancelled contracts (thinking of Remy, Park, Cesar, Ferdinand, Bosingwa, Taarabt etc). Can't imagine the likes of Clint Hill and Karl Henry are on more than Koke, Diego Costa and Turan. Suppose Barton will still be on a fair whack though. If that is the case, more proof that football has gone utterly mental.

No-one who has been to a Roma/Lazio game can say that stadiums with running tracks produce shit atmospheres. The fans produce the atmosphere, not the building.
