I'm guessing a bit here as I'm not a medic, but an MRI would have been taken weeks ago (its standard practice)
Given previous announcements expectation was he'd be back about now but is not improving at expected rate. So next MRI to assess current state and try to understand why mending is slower than expected.
May indicate nothing or not.
