Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think we need to be mindful not to get carried away. He's a breath of fresh air after the way Ndombele, Lo Celso and Winks stunk up the place, but it doesn't make him elite.

Watching Barella, Frankie De Jong etc. puts things into perspective.

Thing is, we've had some strong players last couple of seasons but going back to Dembele and Wanyama, we've lacked basic solid midfielders who can play in a 2. We literally had no one without deep flaws at one point pre Hjoberg. They are massive floor raisers. So I'm going to celebrate.

Exactly, celebrate it!

Who cares if he isn't a world class player or operating at a world class level, the fact is our entire midfield has gone up a level since he's been here and he's a massive benefit to us, can only be a good thing and he's still relitavely young playing under a coach who is notorious for improving players so he could easily level up even more.

We haven't seen a competent functional midfield for 3 years so anyone that comes in a looks half decent is slays going to be looked upon favourably.

Erm with all due respect, your comment on Barella and De Jong is entirely irrelevant. Fuck what other players elsewhere are doing, it's what Bentancur does for US that matters.

And he's been superb since joining. So here's an idea - shut up and let us enjoy things.

Fuck sake

Bendacur will face tougher test after PL teams understand his play better. Managers will target press him.

Juv fans were furious he lost the ball and cost them an important game (I can't recall details)

If he continues to perform (and improve) next season, which I believe he will under Conte, we will have a really good player.

They're already doing that I think, seen him get out of so many tough situations because of his calmness on the ball even though there's time he's given the ball away a few times but we are definitely benefitting from his high risk high reward game.

It's gonna get to a point when players are going to stop pressing as much because what's happening now when they press they leave a lot of space and it's giving an easy out ball to Kane which always puts us in a dangerous position on the attack.

Milinkovic-Savic might be available this summer, I’m on my knees Paratici

What I mean by elite. We should have a midfielder like this alongside Benta/Skipp. We're better for having Bentancur but him being our best midfielder should only be a temporary thing.

Nothing wrong with what is saying. Bentancur's great but the fact he's came in and been so much better than the rest is showing up the level of the others. And we could absolutely still do with someone who is star, match winning quality in the middle.

That's obviously easier said than done, but saying it's what we still need shouldn't be controversial.

Exactly, we have superstars in attack with Son/Kane, a superstar in defence with Romero. What do we have in midfield?

As good as PEH and Benta have been they'd get spanked by prime Eriksen, Wanyama, Dembele.

I don't think they'd get spanked (they press well & are very competitive) but we're missing that star quality in there for sure. Someone who could contribute a good handful of goals & assists by driving through midfield or making runs in to the box like Savic would be perfect. Obviously he's the 'dream' signing so very unlikely, but we're definitely lacking that midfielder who gets your heart racing.

This is the point, been making in a few threads. Did Doherty look good immediately under Conte? Harry? No, they took 2-3months to get properly fit again (thankfully Benta and Kulu both arrived fit to play) and adapt to his system, so you can now sense a muscle memory, where players preserve mental energy as they know the patterns around them better.

Kulu and Benta, plus Sessegnon due to injury, are yet to benefit like Kane and others have/are, fully.

What great signs, love them.

I've been impressed with his combative style out of possession as well as his general play with the ball. He adds steel as well as a dictative style of play and I love the guy.
