Last league games of the season next weekend for both Spurs u18's and u23's

Spurs u18's v Woolwich on Saturday at 11.00

Chelsea u23's v Spurs u23's at 13.00 on Sunday (can we beat them and relegate them ?!)

But not the end of youth football for the season - on 27, 28, 29 May 2022 is the Terbourg u19 Tournament.

Usually the majority of the (typically 18 man) squad is from this year's 2nd Year Academy, but I think this year probably half will be from Academy Year 1 ..... plus there have been a number of rumours that Spurs will recruit a few 18/19 year olds so if we do, this might be their first outing ?

If we relegate them, there may be a few playing we can snatch? They can’t sign extensions presently, time to get into the players heads, how stable we are, being non-oligarch limboed and all…

Same for those graduating from U18s/Academy, get stealing Levy!!! Make up for running our youth into the void, by ripping off Chelsea, would seem good.

They probably have 5-6 Wing backs better than any of ours.

This Billy Heaps kid seems to have good end product. Still just 16, I get the sense he's more of an attacking midfielder? Has anybody seen him play?

I doubt if anyone who has see him play will be able to give much of an opinion on him as this is his first year in the academy , didn't play much at start of season which is not unusual for a lighter framed player (think of someone like Tom Carroll), so hasn't really played enough to give an informed opinion on. Probably better to wait until middle of next season to give an opinion on.

Normally plays as a CM and yesterdays haul of a goal and assist doubled his end product to 2 goals and 2 assists this season in a dozen or so appearances (less than half starts). This year group has a number of potentially interesting players but despite the presence of Alfie Dorrington (huge CB) a tendency to both score a lot of goals and concede a lot which makes it more difficult to evaluate midfield and defenders in particular - crudely do they concede goals because they are too busy going forward to provide cover or what ?!..

John's loan move to Charlton ended in predictable fashion without a place in the matchday squad to close a disappointing time away from the club without a single minute of first team football.

Spurs will not have been impressed with a loan that has barely been worth it, other than for the 19-year-old to experience what life is like inside a League One club.

John was back playing U23s football for Spurs on Monday with 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

I've seen him 3 times I think and what stood out was his striking of the ball so that goal didn't come as a shock to me. Strong chance he'll play the next two seasons in the 18s so like you say best to judge around this time next year.

Gold:
Jamie Bowden and Nile John reunited

It must have been strange for both Jamie Bowden and Nile John to be together again in the midfield for the U23s. Both young midfielders have both been on loan at clubs in the Football League this season and now find themselves back in Spurs' development squad.

Bowden, 20, spent the first half of the campaign in League Two at Oldham Athletic and he got 17 appearances under his belt, with a goal and four assists to boot and he also played in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

However, when Spurs jettisoned three central midfielders in January so he returned and Conte decided that the recalled Bowden would help to supplement the squad. He was rewarded for his efforts by being named on the bench for the Premier League match against Newcastle.

Nile John spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Charlton in a disappointing spell that brought not a single minute of football for the first team there.

With the regular League One season finished, the 19-year-old is back at Spurs and at least got the chance to get some minutes in his legs with this match.

Both players currently have contracts until the summer of 2023 and will be hoping to get first team football somewhere under their belts next season.

Of the two on Monday, John showed drive in his play but Bowden impressed the most, leading the team with the maturity of a 20-year-old and he struck the crossbar with one deflected free-kick and forced the goalkeeper into a flying save with a header from a corner.

Whether both players end up getting a chance again for Tottenham in the first team remains to be seen - John did only turn 19 last month - but both will certainly be able to at least carve out a good career for themselves in the Football League in the years ahead.

Going to be a tricky preseason/summer and next season for some of our younger midfielders :

Harvey White (age 20) - Good all round CM, able to get forward to deliver pin point crosses from left side (and this season seems to be able to deliver crosses from right side), able defender (used as a CB for Spurs u19 v Barcelona a couple of years ago. MoTM as Spurs won). Possibly best set piece taker at the club. Been on Spurs bench for half the season after a half season on loan at L1 Portsmouth last year which was very decent although didn't play as much as he should have,. 5 goals and 6 assists in 18 x u23 appearances this season, mainly in first half season.

Jamie Bowen(Age 20) - Probably best described as a deep lying midfielder with good passing from deep. On loan in first half of season at L2 Oldham with a goal and 4 assists in 17 appearances - difficult club to play for due to ownership/fans relations but a successful loan, arguably should have stayed for added experience. Has captained u23's on his return with a goal and assist.

Nil John (Aged 19) - Started season well with 45 mins against Paco in ECL (withdrawn due to abysmal midfield performances by Lo Celso and Winks) before reverting to playing for u23's with 7 goals and 3 assists in16 appearances, mainly playing as a CAM (he used to be a winger 18 months ago). Best attribute is probably driving forward from midfield. Wasted 2nd half of the season on loan at L1 Charlton where he didn't play.

Alfie Devine (Age 17 - not 18 until August) - Has a mature body for one so young, and seems to organise midfielders around him in a mature way. When he arrived he tended to play as a DM, but seems to have changed to more of a CAM type role playing u23's despite his age with 9 goals and 3 assists in 18 appearances this season. Has played a few games for u18's and in FA Youth cup, but this now seems to be too low a level for him.

Then there is Michael Craig (aged 19) who has had a decent season playing u23's in a CM role before, perhaps surprising many youth followers, appearing on the first team bench.

This summer Transfer Window there are a lot of players who could be upgraded so I'd expect only one CM upgrade of Winks - so leaving 4 decent quality CM's with Bentancur, Skipp and Hojbjerg plus one.

So next season there could be a role as 5th CM if Conte were to offer maybe 6 - 10 appearances off the bench - but equally if there is no first team minutes its a bit of a waste of a season .

So with that in mind I'd expect White to go on loan to a Championship club, Bowden and John to maybe a L1 side ...... with Devine possibly staying as 5th CM if there are first team minutes, simply because he's possibly too young for a loan ?

But its a tough call, as we actually have a lot of talent coming through in the CM position.

This is what I’m saying…

Being there is an order of magnitude better than crappy streams (though a rare blessing they are at Spurs).

Clear your throat chakra and spit your truth more bro’ is all I meant.

Shows what loans can do, and possibly attitude (in fact John must surely have had a hissy fit, or he would have got bench minutes at least).

Bowden was much lower down, perceptually to me, yet he maybe now has just as good a shot at it (confidence, in the now form, being soo precious). Hopefully John is the type to turn it round (like Parrott) and not let this create bondage.
