Not too many comparisons of our two CB's around but this is best I've seen.

Both around 6 foot 4 ins, Phillips bigger build than Dorrington, both have a fair turn of speed, but there are differences between them


About 5 mins 40 secs onwards on this link to u18 Premier League Cup Final from end of last season, is Dorrington racing from his own penalty area up to Villa's where he passes to Donley ... who scores. Dorrington not slow.

Cheers. Definitely sounds like Dorrington is the better system fit. I'll try and watch more of him if I can. I'm a little surprised we bought Phillips based on that review. Sounds like he's physically very strong in duels but not a great footballer.

We cannot continue with Dier and Davies.

I think the comparison is a little hard on Phillips, physically he is already pretty much physically well grown - but doubt he was bought on that alone- and think he's a better footballer not constrained by mobility than the comparison suggests.

I do like Dorrington though, might not be physically as well developed but that can change quite quickly at that age so might be ready end of this season or next
 
BTW, The FA Youth Cup is for u18, u17 and u16's

Age rules are :

In the 2023-24 season, players who are eligible to take part must have reached the age of 15 years by midnight on 31 August of the current season and not reached the age of 18 years as at midnight on 31 August of the current season. So for this season, a player must have been born on or after 1 September 2005 and before 1 September 2008.
 
Rio Bromfield who earned his first E u16 cap at the start of November, after multiple appearances for German youth sides up to u15, is back in German youth sides for some friendlies v Turkey. He maybe playing against another E u16 who is playing for Turkey

I think Bromfield is eligible to play for at least one other country, so he could have an interesting international career !
 
Gunter, Dorrington and Lankshear all started for England u19s today against Japan. Donley and Phillips both came off the bench on 76'.

Lankshear scored early as England went 2-0 up but Japan equalised with 2 quick goals just after half time.

Jamie Donley scored a 90th minute winner though as England u19s won 3-2!

I can't recall who has been this year groups no 9 before, but Lankshear is certainly making a play for that role - his goal today us his 2nd goal in his first two matches for E u19's

Dom Ballard was starting up top in October and Donley has started up top in the past but obviously plays a bit deeper now. Think I said last internationals this age group was a bit lacking up top so glad Lankshear's been given a chance

I said last month that England u19s were knocked out of the 2024 U19 Euros in the qualifying rounds but not technically out yet. One third place team will go through and England are currently top of the 3rd place table but other teams still have to play and we need 3 or 4 more results to go our way to qualify

Edit: now knocked out after Lithuania u19 beat Belarus 2-0 meaning Greece finish ahead of us in the 3rd place table...

Devine started for England u20s against Germany. Bit quiet and came off at 60 minutes. Scarlett came on for the last half hour and hit the post from outside the box. England u20s won 3-2 with 10 men
