Levy sat in the canteen with Bale looking up at the screen reading that and halfway through making a cheesy joke sees Hiquain is on a free:

Levy - Excuse me Gareth that's just reminded me i need to confirm tee time.
Levy - Dashes off to speak to Hitchin 'sod Bale, Hiquains free'
Hitchin - But boss, what about Bale?
Levy - yeah yeah tell him i'm shit at golf.

Can't see Diaz happening. Unless we really do have a lot more money than first thought and Lewis and Levy have decided to play with the big boys.

I think we'll get Kim and either Weghorst or Diallo.

Ings would be superb, but we're leaving it too late in the market for that, as Southampton will demand a lot and will need to replace him.
If we get Weghorst and Kim I will be happy.

However, as someone said it earlier, I still think we need another DM on the squad. Hojbjerg can do that job better than anyone we currently have on the roster, but he's one injury away from Sissoko there. Back when we had Wanyama, Dier could still do that role - he just can't anymore (or doesn't want to).

If we can get a Luis-type DM into the squad then we will be cooking with gas. Hojbjerg can play further up/as an 8 in any case, so he'd still be good depth/rotation.

Unlikely, old boy. Those Government backed business continuity loans are subject to very strict criteria.

I doubt one of "Pay some overrated centrehalf 200K a week, and if his agent happens to the cuntoid Riaola make sure he gets about 25 mill under the counter" was in the list.

In B&W terms absolutely not, but once you start juggling the books and going down the path of what are or aren't considered "operating costs" then it becomes a grey area given the industry that football is.

The caveat to that theory though is our big spend last season..... i.e. Any semblance of a rebuild was not only acknowledged by Levy about a year ago, but it was also already underway.

We did spend a lot last season, but I think just looking at the net spend is not exactly giving a full picture. We needed to sign a CB last summer because of the contract situations surrounding Vertonghen and Alderweireld, we still need one. We needed to sign a DM last summer because we haven't had a good one since 17-18, and we still haven't. We needed to sign a backup striker last summer after Llorente left, and we still haven't. We needed to sign a RB last summer after Trippier left and didn't sign one until this summer, and we're probably going to have to sign a new one in the next 12-18 months due to Doherty's age.

Our net spend was big basically because we bought Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso. They're great players obviously, but we bought them because they're highly rated and can start in our midfield for years hopefully. We didn't address the many needs in the squad, that's not a rebuild to me.

Yes, I am watching the first half. He made one loose one that turned into a dangerous situation (but the best in the world do that). And he has gone back to his keeper a few times, which I wasn't crazy about. But it is a really open game. Very entertaining.
I remember a situation he caused but he also cleaned it up himself. Don't really mind a CB displaying some prudence and going back to his keeper. 2nd half OM come into it.

I said "started" the rebuild; not outright completed one. GLC & TN were as you noted essentially our next generation MF, but there was still another 2 x 30m players (Sess & SB) + a punt on Clarke.

Well done Daniel Levy, excellent work.

Aside from obviously strengthening the team, it's brought us together. It was all getting a little too fractious before, so full credit on that score as well.

I know that might not be really high on his list of priorities, but still...
