Rubbish deal, doesn't help us at all.

Suspect that this is 'backing Conte' or what not.

Its a stop gap deal - and a good one.

Conte has been looking for a ball playing CB - we did not get our primary targets (Bastoni/Gvardiol)
We do see that the primary targets should be available next season.

It seems we are playing the long game. Usually we go down the pecking order & spend the budget on a avg player who will prove average - and we will look to move that player in season or 2.

Instead, we looked at the numbers and see Lenglet does have some superior ball qualities (in some aspect better than Bastoni) - may be FP, Conte took a bold bet to give him a better environment, better protection in midfield and see if he responds.

This is not first time, Conte goes into a new club and brings in a questionable defender. In 2016, his first signing at Chelsea was David Luiz , Conte helped Luiz hide his weakness in his back3 system; then went on to win the PL

I am sure by this summer windows ends, we will agree a loan with options for Lenglet.

Bloody hell, I didn't realise you were so loquacious, nay verbose.
I have a royal decree from Her Majesty's Chartered Institute of Linguists that entitles me to be so...

Sounds creative; but not something I'm concious of happening with loans in the past.
Just because it hasn't happened with past loans doesn't mean it can't be done. If anyone can get creative with this stuff, it's definitely Daniel. There will probably be a specific timeframe in which the sell-on fee will apply, e.g. if Barca sell him the summer his loan is over. Or there may be an option to extend the loan at our discretion, at which point a buy clause can be inserted. Or it could be that we just loan him in for a year and that's all there is to the loan agreement. I guess we'll find out more soon.

Let's hope that these things happen then, that's the only upside in doing a deal like this, unless we can do a deal and sell them Reggie and get some money off them (do they even have funds for that?)

I'm in no doubt Lenglet will improve by the way it's just that for the long term it doesn't really help us, this is the new Levy though and I guess this is backing the manager, I just hope that we have a plan in place next Summer.

Agree but that's a massive shame if true. I really hoped the LCB was the drastic improvement on the first 11 (and yes I know Davies played well last season).
Lenglet might not be the only one we sign.
I think our "problem" is that it sounds as though Rodon likely wants to leave to play football every week. We will need to replace him. You could argue that Davies could replace him on the bench and a first 11 player replaces Davies. But maybe we're struggling to get the one we want....

It's not ideal, but it does have some value. Some games you will need a CB that's good with the ball. Others you will need one that is solid defensively. Until you get the one that is good at both, you have two and pick the right one depending on the opponent. And let's not forget that Lenglet can also play in the middle, so you get some cover there too.

Still think Lenglet takes Rodon's spot on the bench all season.
Conte won't fix him, he won't play that often, we won't keep him.

Rodon experience wise is a rookie . When Lenglet walks into training ground, IMO, he will outshine every CB in the squad, in terms of passing accuracy & ball playing & carrying abilities. I expect him to get far more minutes than Rodon. Then it's really upto him, if he grabs those chances and get his confidence back.

Only way, Lenglet sits in bench most season, is if he completely flops in almost every chance he is given. Lets hope that isn't the case.
