Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Spurs might well have met the release clause - BUT player needs to agree to come to Spurs on top of meeting release clause ..... rumours are that he did initially but 'changed his mind or mind changed for him'

Player 'persuaded' to sign a new contract until 2028 - yes that short a contract.

Reason the contract is that short is very likely he's now on a huge salary, probably £20m pa,+ maybe £30m (who knows) but way more than anyone in their right minds would pay him.

But that ensures he stays at Notts Forest for at least one more season - when Forest may well still be able to sell him for £60m or even £80m (uplift if he plays ell in CL).

So Forest do not lose financially at all as they get their £60m or £80m transfer fee - and keep him for at least one season when in CL when they can afford to over pay him.... and maybe he takes Notts Forest past CL league stage (worth an extra £10m maybe £20m by itself).

No way can anyone else both pay Forest £60m for him and put him on £20m or £30m pa salary for a 5 year contract.

There are question marks over the player and agent integrity ....... but club owner has a reputation (not proven in court) for 'persuading reluctant people' so maybe that took place too.
First of all, they're not in the CL.

Secondly, if they're paying him £20m/yr and sell him for £60m next year they'll have spent more than if they sold him now.

Thirdly, £20-30m/yr is £400-600K/wk. Doubt that's his new salary.

Good source. Although wonder if it is just Real using us to get a bidding war going.

Nah..Special relationship mate...

Seriously though. This is kind of quality we should be signing. Regularly.

With the nuclear fall out of the past 24 hours maybe, just maybe, we'll pull out all the stops to get him. Quell the unrest.

We'll see

Simple as that. Levy likes his players to earn there big contracts not come in on £150 -200k a week straight away.
That went over well last time we tried it, didn't it?

Also people ignore the fact that the contracts we offer are heavily incentive-laden. At the end of the day, if we do well the players get ample compensation. I'd rather these types of contracts than guaranteeing money and ending up with another Ndombele situation.

EL same logic applies.

Notts Forest owner determined to keep him otherwise Forest are a mess and likely crash out of EL in league stage with a lot of losses = minimal EL earnings. That is the whole issue you miss.

Its quite likely Notts Forest will try to sell him for more than £60m - quite possibly £80m in 12 or 24 months time. So that's another upside to pay for his salary.

This saga is being driven by Notts Forest owner so you can bet your bottom dollar he thinks he does better than break even by rejecting Spurs £60m - use some logic to understand why its happened.

I don't think they can afford any more signings unless they sell Trossard/Martinelli for very good money

they've brought in
Kepa
defender from Valencia
Zubamendi 56M
Noorgard 10M
Gyokeres 60M
and Madueke 42M

three of these cost almost 200M

if we went hard for Eze it'd be interesting to see if he was interested particularly if the scum don't move for him.

Again; "go hard" is just jazzy words in this situ.......

He'd likely jump at coming here if Arse weren't interested.

LOL such transparent bullshitters. The suspension of disbelief over there is something else. They clearly make up shit behind closed doors to placate the masses.

All I can say is that the player himself tried to play 4d chess without understanding the rules and it backfired spectacularly. Everyone thought money would solve the problem but Maranakis just put his foot down. In the end MGW had little choice but to sign a new deal, which happened very quickly btw, despite still desperately wanting out.

I know I'm not exactly explaining much, but this is 100% not the club's fault or even his reps for that matter, but I think I'd be really pushing my luck if I said any more than that tbh.
“Allow me to piggy back here with Trix. He is absolutely spot on. Club really believed they had it all sewn up. Reps thought the same. Let’s just say a certain individual is very undesirable in how they work, and not referring to the player. I don’t care what statement he made, and I was sharing my doubts and more behind closed doors. You just cannot blame the club. It will catch up with them”

Nope. I’m about as far from ITK as you can get but here’s my read of the situation
- We tried to buy MGW after getting info on the release clause from the players agent. CCA are good friends of THFC
- The players agent was probably threatened with being sued by BigMacanikis because he breached the NDA in the contract between MGW and the club. Spurs are not party to that.
- BigMacanikis threatened to sue Spurs for “tapping up” being talking to the player without the club permission. Practically every transfer has that these days so this allegation holds no water
- NF suing the agent is probably for the difference between the release clause and the valuation of say £80m. So maybe £20m. I read somewhere that ManC had made an enquiry for MGW before Spurs and were told £80m. Presumably ManC didn’t know of the release clause.
- in order to get his agent out of a £20m bind, MGW agreed to sign a new contract with either a much higher release clause or no release clause at all. This contract is purely for that purpose and not an intent to stay at NF, because this is only a 1 year extension on his existing 2 year contract. If he intended to re-commit to NF he would have signed a 5 year contract.

It’s unfortunate and Spurs can rightly feel like victims. But Levy is not at fault here.

The key thing is for us to move on and get some decent business done fairly quickly with the money we haven’t spent on MGW. If we don’t do that, feel free to blame Levy (or Lange) for not having a Plan B.
Sure, I take all the points. Levy isn’t to blame for specifics in this particular deal. My comment about him being to blame for plenty was aimed more broadly. Apologies if that wasn’t clear.

I don’t have great faith that there’s a plan B. But I’m definitely open to being pleasantly surprised.

so sick of this fucking club finding new ways to kick us in the balls. sure, it's disappointing to miss out on a good player but to go silent for 2 weeks and make us all think something must be brewing and then just have our pants pulled down by fucking forest and make us the laughing stock yet again is just so demoralizing. can't wait for all the smiling content from asia that's incoming.

it's been said before, but we aren't a football club, we're a real estate/live event company. we're not competing in athletics, we're just hanging around the edges so we can keep printing money on concerts and hotels. our transfer 'strategy' is rummaging through the bins looking for discarded value. we're the biggest joke in football and everyone from bottom to top knows it.

we're going to sleepwalk through next season and finish bottom half again. no one is bleeding for our shirt and no one wants to come to this joke club. we're just a paycheck and a nice life in london for players who all know spurs don't compete for shit. fuck me i can't believe i let this godforsaken club suck me in and have false hope yet again. i hope we go down. we certainly deserve to
