Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Alonso leaving Leverkusen in the summer. 138 games and only 18 defeats it’s absolutely incredible.

‘Neverkusen’ and the ‘Tottenham of Germany’ are two phrases I have heard about them. Amazing managerial performance and a great system/style of play to go with it. Would be my number one choice of manager for Spurs if it was possible.

Easy to see why Madrid made him their number one.

He will work wonders with that Real Madrid team. He seems to do best with a young squad and that’s what Madrid are now

Dude, take your Spurs coloured glasses off... you are making up transfer fees.

Tel is 50m (that's the price Bayern have set), we don't have to pay it but I doubt Bayern accept anything less than 45m especially as they still owe us money on Kane. The Cardoso fixed agreement is 25m, Danso is 20m so in total this lot will cost us 90m. There is not a hope in hell of us getting 40m for Richarlison... we will be lucky to get 25m, Soloman will be around 15m and then the only other player we are likely to sell will be Romero at around 60m. In total, that's around 100m so 10m profit which will be used to pay off our net transfer debt which stands at 230m. If you want any other players in, then be prepared to let your valuable assets leave... e.g. Porro 35-40m, Vicario 20-25m. I am hoping we can mug off some middle east club to buy Son for a ridiculous fee. Every other club does this except us.
That post reminds me of when I was 10 and tried to write a letter to Gerry Francis asking why we didn't just sign Juninho and Kinkladze because I thought we were lacking in flair and creativity, £6m and £5m I think were the reasonable fees I suggested...

After reading an interview with the then Argentinian national head-coach, Luis Menotti, in a Danish sport magazine called Alt om Sport, in 1978, where he talked about the incredible talent of Diego Maradona --- I sent a letter to Tottenham and requested them to by Diego Maradona. Never heard from them nor did Spurs sign Maradona so that was the end of my scouting career
True story.

We're not doing a lot unless ENIC put some of their own money in, which is most unlikely. I think we'll sell Romero, Richarlison, and Solomon. Buy Tel, Cardoso, Danso and I think Vuskovic is already paid for.

So we still won't have another Maddison like player unless we can loan someone in using the saving from Werner's wage.

We've spent circa £150m gross in each of last last few years (mainly from cash generated from operations) even when we haven't had much in from transfers (Kane being the exception last year when including January window we spent a bit more that £150m between the two transfer windows.

So if we follow the same pattern, we'll probably spend £150m again, probably part funded by sales of Solomon (say 20m) and Gil (15m ?).

After that its a case of any big sales will be replaced by other players, mainly funded by the sale (eg. sale of Bissouma funds Cardoso) but maybe also part funded from the £150m (eg sale of Richarlison say 40m but we might need to spend 60m gross on another forward).

If we win EL I think it'll be easier to recruit (= better players available for us), but even if we do not I think we'll still bring in a perhaps 5 players (assuming Romero, Richarlison and Bissouma move on) - but doubt we'll buy Tel unless Bayern want to more than halve their price, if he stays next season its more likely a loan.

I think we'll also include a couple of youngsters such as Davine and Donley as squad players (both List B so don't take up a squad place).

So I'm expecting to see something like :

- Cardoso in if Bissouma leaves
- Good CB in if Romero moves on (might cost more than we receive for Romero)
- Good forward in if Richarlison leaves (will cost more than we get for Richarlison)
- Good wide forward brought in (probably replacing Tel and Werner in the squad)
- Good versatile defender brought in to help cover LB.
- A couple of youngsters such as Donley and Devine staying with squad (in addition to Moore and Scarlett). Might be more if we are in CL to increase squad size by 2 or 3 players.
- Danso is here on a loan with obligation, so we'll convert him to permanent (not counted in my 5 new players).

So I'm expecting a window where we end with a stronger squad than we have now - will probably slightly larger and better quality if we are in CL next season. It won't solve every problem that some fans have with current squad - no squad is perfect to all fans !

Obviously other transfers might be needed if for example we lose Porro to Madrid etc

Probably won't be as comprehensive or straightforward as this, but I wouldn't mind this business in the summer.

Out
Richarlison (30m)
Romero (45-50m)
Werner (end of loan)
Reguilon (15m)
Bissouma (25-30m - great for us in Europa lately but not reliable enough)

In
Mbeumo (FW) (60m)
Tel (loan) (FW) (6-8m?)
Jonathan David (FW) (Free Agent, sign-on fee)
Cardoso (DM) (25m)
Another FB (20m)

Eze (CAM) (60m) ???

Don’t forget that Hojberg is on loan with obligation to buy. Thats an additional…I can’t remember, 20mil?

I’m not sure we need LB cover for Udogie that everyone says. Spence has mostly looked good at LB and if Donley is part of the squad he can also cover LB. If we get a new FB in people shouldn’t be surprised if it’s KWP - HG, club trained and free.

Equally if Romero goes we will have VDV, Danso, Radu and maybe either Vuskovic or Phillips at CB. Thats 4 plus Gray and Spence as emergencies. If we get another CB that means one less mid or forward in the squad.

Full squad needs to be 3GK, 4CB, 4FB, 7MID, 6FWD plus one floater plus CT kids = 25 + kids. That assumes we can fulfill the UEFA CT/HG quota of 8 which we didn’t this year (only Austin and Whiteman CT).

I guess a lot depends on CL or not.

40-45 games vs 55-60 is a big differenc

To do anything positive, we need Devine, Moore, Donley, Scarlett etc to play roles in the squad and have an impact

New players for the first 11, Yoots to improve the squad and allow us to churn (and generate funds for stellar first teamers)

We have a large net transfer debt of over £250m. It's likely we'll need to sell before we buy. We have an obligation to buy Danso for about £20m, but we're also going to receive about £17m on Holbjerg from Marseille because of their obligation to buy.

Outs
Richarlison £25m
Romero £50m
PEH £17m
Gil £15m
Solomon £15m
Reguilon Out of contract in June this year so leaves for free.

£122m

Ins
Tel £45m
Danso £20m
Vuskovic likely already paid for.

So that leaves about £57m to spend, if we don't buy Cardoso. Enough to get Eze or someone of that ilk with a bit left over to pay off some of the transfer debt.

However, their ability to spend is severely restricted. According to The Telegraph, Tottenham will need to offload players before making new signings, as they face a staggering £279 million in unpaid transfer debt. Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that the club has accumulated this figure through instalment-based payments after spending over £700 million on transfers in recent seasons.

Levy added: “Since opening our new stadium in April 2019, we have invested over £700 million net in player acquisitions.....

....Enic provided £122.1 million in owner funding since their 2001 takeover to June 2024, the equivalent of just £5.3 million per season. The majority of that came from a £97.5 million share issue in May 2022, which had initially been announced as being worth up to £150 million.

We need a manager sorted almost immediately after the final to move forward. We can’t have a summer of dithering from Levy as it will completely f up player activity

I assume Ange knows he’s going regardless, and that we’ve been planning to appoint quickly but you never know with this utter clown of an owner
