Cometh the hour, cometh the man...
I'd be surprised if that happened. He's been one of our best players so far this season (though I know that's not saying much). Of course he loses the ball often - that's because he runs at people, which no one else in our entire squad does. He commits and terrifies opposition defenders and midfielders, often pulling them out of shape or drawing fouls to get us up the pitch or provide good opportunities for balls into the box (if only we had someone who could deliver them...). I know his running is random, but I'd rather have that than no one ever running at the opposition - he gives us something different. On top of that, he works his socks off, always gives 100%, and clearly really cares, something you sadly can't say about all the players. I agree his final decision / delivery is often poor, but no one that he is keeping out of the team has any better record of consistency in that area - they all flatter to deceive (at best).
Oh well, I guess neither of us know Conte's mind, nor have his skills - let's see what he thinks...
I just think we need quality vertical passes if we are going to start being a good team again. Lucas is a trier but I don’t see players like him at other top teams. We need players who have more to their game than just trying to stumble through 3 defenders and win a foul.
For a player as limited as him to be in the first XI he has to have a huge goal/assist output and he doesn’t. I think in Conte’s back 3 system it doesn’t make much sense to have a player like him when you already have two wing backs bombing forward. The team needs a quality passer in midfield more than it needs Lucas in the front line.
Can't underestimate the importance of mixing it up with some horizontal and perpendicular ones too though, maybe the occasional parallel to really throw the cat amongst the pigeons...
Indeed - and as soon as we have such a player, I will be the first to agree that he should replace Lucas. At present however we have N'Dombele and Lo Celso who, whilst occasionally showing that they have the potential to be world class, on average actually turn in displays far less effective than Lucas does.
If Conte can get the best out of either one of them, consistently, then they might well replace Lucas. But that's a big if.

I agree. By all means have him on the bench to come on in one of the striker positions instead. We are so light in attack I think it would be a better option.
Looking forward to this. Club football. Two big traditional clubs. A Winters afternoon few beers with the lads. This is what league football is all about. Conte at the helm.

It's sad about Son. He started the season so well scoring against City but since then he has not scored against a top 4 side.
None of his other goals count because Woolwich is not a big game and his other goals were flat track bully goals against farmers and relegation fodder.
If he scores v Leeds it won't count because they are relegation fodder.
It's a shame. he has regressed since he signed the new contract and at his age the only way is down.
We should consider selling in January for about £10 million if some other club is stupid enough to buy him.
