At least Vitesse were a bit more understanding and sympathetic.

"Anyone who cares about Vitesse has been looking forward to the big decision in the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League for two weeks, but on the day of the final match against NŠ Mura, a very unpleasant development took place in Group G," read their statement."The game between Tottenham Hotspur and Stade Rennais FC, the course of which is crucial for Vitesse, has been cancelled after a corona outbreak at Spurs. Vitesse's match nevertheless seems to have to continue, which creates an undesirable situation."Because of the messages that appeared from London on Wednesday, Vitesse was waiting for the way in which the situation would develop further and the way in which UEFA would deal with this.


"Because the European Football Association has put a line through Tottenham Hotspur vs Stade Rennais FC on Thursday morning, following the situation in England, many questions have arisen about Vitesse's meeting with NŠ Mura. Not only are the interests of this duel enormous, but they are also heavily entwined with the other final game in the group.

"UEFA regulations require that all matches in the group's final round of play must be played at the same time. Although there is a provision on unforeseen circumstances, this concerns very important interests for clubs, whereby a fair course of competition must be guaranteed at all times.

"Vitesse and Tottenham Hotspur compete for a place in the knockout phase of the Conference League and that must be a fair, simultaneous battle.

"Vitesse has not (yet) received an official message from UEFA about the consequences of the cancellation in London for Vitesse vs NŠ Mura. The European Football Association therefore seems to assume that the game in Arnhem will be played 'normally'.

"If Tottenham Hotspur vs Stade Rennais FC are moved to a later moment, that will be a significant disadvantage for Vitesse from a sporting point of view, because both teams are highly dependent on each other's result. That said, Vitesse obviously finds it extremely upsetting that a corona outbreak has taken place at Tottenham Hotspur, because everyone's health is always number one.

"But above all, this choice should not lie with Vitesse, but with UEFA. In this context, Vitesse has also asked the European Football Association a number of questions and indicated that it is prepared to investigate concrete solutions. All with the aim of creating an equal and fair playing field for all teams in the group.

"In the unlikely event that that does not happen, Vitesse will do everything in its power to make the statement on the field, instead of off it. The dream of European wintering is still alive and Vitesse will give more than one hundred percent to make it come true!"
