The trouble, no matter what the recruitment setup, has been defining that opportunity. We've splashed some cash before and been bitten. Paulinho, Soldado and Lamela. Sanchez. Club record fees paid for all, and we've gotten pretty poor returns.

We gotta sort out the scouting. And you can't say the answer is always spend more. Liverpool and Leicester have paid the sorts of fees we've paid for quite a long time...and they've bought much better players at those prices. Maybe we just need to nick all their recruitment staffs, the money those guys make is nothing in the grand scheme of things...double their salaries!

Our scouting is embarassing. The players we let go before they make it big, often over pathetic peny pinching is pitiful.
I think some other clubs don't need the DoF because their chairman are fine handling the business. Oil Barons for example, don't really care about profit and loss.
Then the smaller clubs only really care about staying up.

I'm happy to admit I'm one of those. A couple of other posters have said that too.
I'll probably still renew my season ticket because I always have done so and I appreciate watching football. But FML its going to be a struggle forking out money to watch us next season with Jose in charge. I hope THST ask Levy to review the ticket prices. Its not affordable anymore particularly for some fans who will have been affected by the pandemic financially.
There will be fans that have been going for 40+ years who won't be able to renew this season because the prices are extortionate and the pandemic has sent them into a financial tailspin.
But the club won't give a toss cos there will be someone lining up to take over. Having said that it might be harder now with the on field performances, the lack of tourism, and the fact that those who may be in line to pick up a season ticket can't afford to themselves.

The whole situation is a total clusterfuck.

So the myth that Mourinho had sole say in transfers there is stupid.
You think ole wanted van de beek? No someone else makes the transfers.

If you watched the spurs amazon documentary then you would see that spurs scouts are clueless but Mourinho gave his recommendations and i think they had a great summer in the transfer market.

Its probably going to take another summer or 2 to fix the problems with this team from not refreshing and investing in the team during pochs last few years..

Still at least its going in the right direction, if anyone wants to follow uniteds way in blowing shitloads of cash at random players until you find 1 good one go ahead and support united..

If you don't want to keep going in circles repeating the same tired old arguments, why keep posting your opposite biased opinions on the owners.

This is a public forum where anyone is free to comment on anyone else's posts.
It isn't, and shouldn't be, an echo chamber.

It is absolutely valid to compare our financials with other clubs, both income, expenditure and owner wise.
Some people keep saying that we are the 6th richest club in the world, and therefore we should be spending more.
A facile argument.
Barcelona, richest club in the world, 1bn in debt.
RM, 2nd richest club in the world, crippled with debt.
Utd, massive debt and owners taking money out of the club.
Us, 600m in debt, fair enough that debt is bonds, but it has to be paid back sometime.
But let's spend more money, where we've had no fans allowed for a year.
Liverpool, yeah I'll give you that, a very well run club.

Enic aren't perfect but neither are they the devil as some would have it.
I don't like Jose's tactics and think it was the wrong appointment. Obviously Levy can be blamed for that on the football side, but the argument that Levy only got him as a sop to the fans and because it was the cheaper option is laughable.

You're right about a couple of things though.
Firstly, no one on either side, is going to change the others opinions.
And secondly, there's no hard feelings.

To be fair the players bought in while jose has been charge have been not that impressive at all. Doherty, Bergwin, Rodon. PEH is okay and Reggie is decent. Very mixed bag.

Mate, Kane is quality but in a very good team he did not lead us over the line.

Top.top players arrive at key moments.

Kane hasn't in the way that Bale has for example.

The biggest difference between the 2 players is that Bale has shown up when it matters. Kane is more consistent but in the moments that really matter then top players become legends.

Kane is not a legend or top top player in my opinion.

And whether every single pundit in the world said different I would hold firm until such time as he proved me wrong..

It is true.

I’ve been watching a fair amount of football documentaries and speaking to football friends in this whole lockdown situation.

At the big moments we have failed to step up. Our players are just below that top top level. It’s there in black and white.

Unlike ole gunnar solskjaer and teddy sheringhsm who both showed up when it mattered.

Bona fide United Legends.

Or now poch at PSG with Mbappe and neymarfor example. Is he operating at a higher level of player now?
Already can Mbappe be considered at a legend status (more so than Kane) having scored in a World Cup final v Croatia- what happened to England when they faced Croatia? Trippier scored....
Recent hat trick v Barca in the CL. Big players step up. Who would be valued at more right now? Probably Mbappe??

Jimmy Greaves or Geoff Hurst. Who is the legend for English football???

Football is a funny old game!! Always lots to discuss anyway!!
