Dele running into to trouble but saved by poor reffing.

Another nothing game from him.
Hit the post twice. He's a flawed player but even if he's not first choice every week I could see him getting anywhere between 5-15 goals all competitions. Plus HG. Worth keeping this season I think.

Great win for momentum and to lift the attitude around the club going into the season. It really seems like players are coming together to prove they can win without Kane.

Son and Lucas have especially looked good and motivated.

Dele looked better today than he has for the past year or so…high hopes for him this season…

He seemed to run around a lot which I guess is better than him looking in different last year but still as ineffective as always.

It appears that Nuno wants him to be important so I hope you are right but I haven't seen much from him to show he has learned how to pass or read the game any better than he has in the past 3 seasons.

How do we feel about passing out from the back, as opposed to long balls from the keeper, working well?
I mean, we did both this match. Sanchez in particular hit some really great long balls.

We're looking more comfortable playing out the back though but it will certainly help when Gio/Tanguy are starting as we're missing the link between our defense and attack.

Balance is key and we want to be able to do both.

My problem with the diamond wasn’t the diamond per se, but the idiotic application of it with daft shit like Moura centrally up top, Sissoko as the 6, Dier as a fucking 8 etc. The structure didn’t help it hindered the tactical intention.

I don’t like 3cb systems generally, but Poch’s 3421 in 2016 was great, worked and put people and collective in a system that got the best out of them.

I’ve called for us to play 433 because I’ve generally felt we have a squad more suited to that format in the last few seasons. Many of the players we’ve bought, we bought because they’d played well whilst in 433 systems, then we’d ask them to play a different remit in a different system and wonder why they don’t work.

We’ve rarely had CM’s multifunctional or rounded enough to play double pivots (few CM’s are really at highest levels IMO), but we’ve constantly players that way, Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Hojbjerg, Lo Celdo, Ndombele.

Son is a wide forward (from either side) not an AM. Lamela bought after a great season as a inverted WRF in s 433 at Roma. Moura always played as a WF n PSG’s 433.

I don’t understand why we’ve constantly prioritised getting an extra attacking player into to format when that additional attacking player is invariably a fucking bumbler - thus sacrificing control with and without the ball just to bumble even rarer attacking moments.

Poch’s early 4231 was good when we were a very young, energetic hard and high pressing team and we could overload those forward areas, but that 4231 became less effective as it aged and the dynamics and application dropped off.
Yawwwwwwwwwn. I've missed this shit.

My concern is in the midfield his passing was poor. he still can't keep the play going and stops the flow too much.

The chances are good but the fact that we have to talk about almost chances for him in a pre-season as the top moments is kind of telling.

5-15 is a pretty big spread, sticking your neck out there? ;) sorry, just teasing.
If he were to manage 5 I'd be worried, 15 and he will have had a decent impact. I'm just not convinced he isn't a player whose best position, playing just behind Kane, doesn't seem to fit in with the formation(s) Nuno wants to play.
He seems a pretty niche player who needs a certain system to suit him and his game. Lacks that versatility to make an impact in several roles.
