I admit I'm being somewhat cheeky here because I know it horrifies a lot of our fan base (a tad unjustly if understandable imo)

However I do think absolutely that Levy and Southgate are a match made in heaven.

I really don't think Southgate has any desire to be a club manager. He's not an unintelligent man and knows that premier league management is a knife fight. He's got his pick of cushty roles in this country and will always be a bit of a media darling with a solid reputation.

Trading that in to manage Spurs? Nahhhh.

Basic would actually be fine right now. Fuck off the philosophy as we're in a dogfight and focus on winning 3 points every week and take it game by game. Get some sort of organisation back that protects the backline, nothing wrong with lobbing some balls forward for Solanke now and again either.

We are in an absolute state so back to basics is likely what a competent coach will do mid-season. Southgate is never coming here so not sure why people are worried about it anyway, he's essentially a politician now.
I wonder what Pep would do in Ange’s shoes

I hate to say it but it really has Southgate written all over it. All that has to happen is for Potter to not change his previously held position about Levy/Spurs. I don't believe Southgate is going to ever be seriously courted by Utd/City/Pool/Chels/Ars anytime soon, nor do Newc or Villa need him either. Brighton won't want him. We're like the only two single people at the bar, and it's getting close to closing time.

And rodgers and Martinez. Don’t rule them out.

Depressing in the extreme!

I'm a solid 4-2-3-1 whore myself so I like this. :D

To fix this mess we need a poch mark 2 with a history of winning trophies or always challenging.
Thing is, everyone seems hell bent on a coach being the silver bullet but the team that Poch stumbled into is more what we need again.

Who is our Kane, Son, Dembele, Dele and Eriksen Mark 2?

I wonder how likely we are to recruit a team that good ever again. And tbh when you see what Maresca is doing with the same squad Poch had, part of me wonders if we slightly overrate Poch’s role in that team rising to the level it did.

Probably stick to what he does. Pep is a philosopher too, one suited to the top echelon of clubs. An elite coach for sure but the way he's been of late at City has pretty much proven he's terrible at handling adversity as a coach. He's a perfectionist so if you give him brilliant musicians he will be the best conductor possible but with average musicians he's as likely to start lobbing violins at them as he is to improve them.

I think that’s pretty likely.

It’s going to be interesting to see how long he sticks around with City in such a big mess.

Maybe Worse. Pep would be a horror show at this club and I say that as someone who accepts he is one of the greatest managers of all time. He plays such a high risk technical style and it works brilliantly with the right players but getting our players to attempt it would be nuts, we are miles off any attempt at that.

Pochettino was literally the one who put Maresca on this path. Their form before he was sacked was as good as anything they've been this season - the pathway was set. He guided them through a very difficult period with 500 players, finally got some cohesion together and Caicedo, Palmer etc performing and then he got sacked, probably for political reasons as much as anything else.

never mind the fact his kamikaze shit puts players at risk of getting injured anyway, he fucking rushed two back when they clearly wasnt ready! putting their careers at risk. fucking horrendous

Agree, really horrendous and very embarrassing, unthinkable at this level.

Maybe but I think Southgate will have a sense of unfinished business having not got over the line with England. And if Levy can get Conte to come I reckon he could find the levers to convince Southgate if he (Levy) felt there was no other option.

Having said that I don't think the people around Levy will agree and push for a more progressive manager that's more in line with our recent squad building. Is that a plus for an Iraola type? Hopefully...

I remember someone describing him as a boutique manager, and thats pretty apt. He may well be the most brilliant coach ever, certainly of my lifetime. But I think he would go off kilter or maybe even lose a bit of hunger if he didn't have the elite options available to enact his football. Less that he "couldn't" do it with lesser players. More that he wouldn't care to do so because he couldn't achieve the level on the pitch that would excite him.

We're seeing it now. Or the start of it at least.

I know a few Chav fans and they were ropable that Poch left after having finally made the team into something functional.

I'm sure they aren't complaining now after Maresca has built on those foundations but Poch absolutely did the heavy lifting
