Ange picks him every week ....should be the end of the conversation....
It would be if Ange was in the discussion.
But he stuck with Richie, and that's paid dividends so I am happy for him to get games.

But when Biss, Sarr, Madison, VDV are all back on line then I'll be surprised if he starts, I would pick Solomon over him at his current level (ie if he was fit and playing at his potential.)
BJ really needs to up his game and start putting in some stand out performances.

My comments are based on wanting the best for the team and that means putting out the players who are on it and contributing.

Whilst I agree and support whatever and whoever Ange picks, there is a caveat to that.
It pretty much just means he is being picked ahead of Gil, due to availability of players.

But that's also to the lads credit, albeit mostly down to luck with injuries - some players are more or less injury prone.

Our 'attacking midfielders' availability this season. % of games they have been available for selection since joining;

95% Kulusevski
88% Johnson
71% Lo Celso
67% Gil
52% Maddison
33% Solomon
24% Perisic

This is going about how most expected it to go. He's not doing too badly for us, his pace creates lots of situations for us, he can have some some clean striking/crossing techniques and a good first touch but he's a very incomplete player and is struggling to be decisive. You see players like Madueke, Kroos, Clarke, Emerson and probably dozens/hundreds more getting one-to-one skill training.. Johnson looks like he could really use it in just weaving about with the ball and creating shots for himself. Good rotation player in time hopefully, need a marquee/smart signing on the wing this summer to push this team to it's best level.

It's not denial. To the contrary, it's accepting of the reality that you can't have a squad filled with foreigners and promoting youth will have more misses than hits. So you have to pay over the odds to get your homegrown numbers up.

A £30m homegrown player will struggle to get off the bench unless they are in the last year of their contract.

How is it not denial? You basically said we have to pretend he cost 30 million quid instead of the 50 we did pay for him.

And you talk about accepting reality

The point about age is that he's not had long enough at under performing to show he's at his best yet.

Someone like Dier at 29 was obviously never going to improve so no point persisting. Harry Winks was 26 when we sold him and had gone backwards from 22 if anything.

He may click into gear he may not, but I wouldn't give up just yet as there is, IMO, something there.
Yeah there could be something there. My point was more you spend Jack Clarke money on a player like Johnson, and Johnson money on a player like Kulusevski or Maddison.

If a club made a £50m bid for him, I would most likely take it and let it be their gamble. For that price a player ought to be a shade closer to, or more guaranteed to become the finished article.

Hell, we could've sold Dele for £160mil or something at one point. Gets to those 'peak years' people refer to when talking about young players and it was hard to shift him on a free transfer.
Dier, when a bit quicker off the mark in his younger years could have gone to Man Utd or somewhere for probably £60mil+. A lot of players 'showing potential' at a young age are actually at the top of their games. I can think of more examples off the top of my head where that has been the case rather than the Harry Kane model where they do keep improving.

Not high on him but the thing that worries me most is how at least 3 times in the 1st half he was out on the touchline and AWB beat him to a pass because Brennan didn’t put in the extra yard of work to come back to the ball and give himself more space to work with.

The mishit cross happens… he’s still 2 out of 3 for those… no one will connect 100% of them, but his unwillingness to battle for duels or put in effort defensively is concerning.

He seems like a great guy so hopefully coaching can resolve these issues.

This clip is a great example of why Brennan is a fit.

The build up to break their press is pure Ange ball and just Johnson’s pace alone makes that pass a great opportunity.
So far 9/10 that cross from Brennan has been on target as well. Especially to Richy. Really this should have been an assist for Johnson and in a game when he didn’t play well.

That’s why he’s going to play when whilst he’s learning. But that’s a shit cross and he didn’t play well so I fully understand why people got frustrated with him last night.

If everyone fit Johnson will be on the bench I would think. He does look a bit soft at times.was very aware of Wan Bissaka coming behind Him when a ball was played up to him.
But then, Bale was soft when he first arrived.

This was the most annoying sequence of the game... A better pass there and we're 2-1 up.

Disappointing in the sense we’ve seen him put that ball on a plate for Richy before. We know he’s capabale.

But also wow what a sexy transition from back to front.

Also notice Richy’s starting position. He’s hanging behind the CBs in an offside position knowing Porro will play a ball to Johnson that’ll put Richy onside in the sequence. Excellent reading of the game and exactly what Ange wants. You saw Kyogo score a boatload of goals at Celtic doing the same thing

There always has to be a scapegoat...

Brennan didn't have the best game yesterday, but he was far from as bad as some are making out. He's young, he's got time on his side. He'll be fine. I would just implore those who are on his case already to lay off a little and not destroy the confidence of a bright, young player.

Yes, people focus on the bad final ball, but more importantly he did everything right up to that point. The starting position wide right, timing of his run and the pace to get a yard on the defender. This is a sequence we have on repeat. It has and will get us more goals. And Johnson is the best player to execute it.

I expect him to improve and become a world-beater, but the final ball is killing me right now. It's just a hit and hope kind of ball. The sort of cross you see week in, week out in lower leagues. I'm not trying to bash the kid, but lets be clear on the problem; he's not playing it to our guys in the box.

It seems to me that he's also strangely good at finding space where NO ONE is! If that's backed up by stats, then we've got something to work with. But either way, he needs some specialist one on one training to fix that before he starts churning out assists on a regular basis.

It's possible that when Madders and Sarr come back, they'll be in the spots he's hitting. I hope so!
