Ex-Spurs Player Giovani Lo Celso

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If only he could have dominated them in the return league :(

He was well and truly marked out of the game that night.
He did enough, the blame for the second night falls on Son, Sanchez and Poch. Son for playing too individualistically and missing those chances, Sanchez for his terrible positioning and awareness for Dybala's goal, and Poch for his tactical naivete.

Why play a high line and attack so hard when we had the advantage after Son's goal.

Anyway, what's done is done.

Confirmed Kane fanboy that shits on every Spur except Kane and also praises the opposition every chance he gets. Troll.

What's his best position? I'm still not sure. Is it in front of the double pivot, where he's been used mostly this season? Or is it as one of the double pivot, alongside Hojbjerg?

Last season I thought he was very effective playing deeper, and this was what brought the Modric comparisons. A deep lying playmaker, intelligent, who can also scrap a bit. This season he's been mostly used as an Ndombele replacement in the. PL, further forward, but hasn't looked at his best.

Mourinho said today after the match:

"This is the kind of game where you need the ball and it is the kind of game where you cannot accept a low block."

"Some of my, let's say build-up players, they lost a lot of passes in the first phase of the build-up."

and

"If they didn’t do it, it’s because they couldn’t do it."

The obvious question is, 'what do you expect with Sissoko-Hjobjerg'? They aren't really there for their progressive passing. This was a problem Lo Celso could have helped us solve, but Mou didn't sub him on for Sissoko, even though Sissoko was on a yellow. So I guess he doesn't quite trust him there yet.

Lo Celso was a breakout player for us last year and I think we need to get him in the team, at least in those games where 'you need the ball', playing alongside Hojbjerg. I wonder if Mourinho's comments above were a hint that he's thinking of changes in the midfield and that he's only waiting for Lo Celso to get fit, 'the real Gio' as he called him. I hope so. Hojbjerg-Sissoko against the lesser teams is not the most fun to watch.

We need to take a risk and start trying to phase out Sissoko. We desperately need composure and skill on the ball.

Lo Celso might cost us points getting there, but the sooner the better. Or a the very least rule him out as a solution and go and get Sabitzer or whoever.

This system has only really clicked over the last 6 weeks or so and, since doing so, has helped us to the top of the table and you wanna bin it 'cos Sissoko'?

Essentially between this and your Dele idea, you want:

Aurier / Toby / Dier / Reg
Gio / Peh / Ndombele
Kane
Son / Dele

That's a complete overhaul of the way we play.

I'm not so sure he was exclusively talking about PEH & Sissoko there.... Could just as easily see Gio, Ndombele and even Bergwijn & Kane as his build-up players...

It wasn't like PEH & Sissoko were primarily guilty of coughing the ball up all the time today.

From our 10th league game of the season last season he was available for every league game.

That's 29 league games...

That's consistent.

For whatever reason, he's got little niggly injures this year and then a hamstring injury which could happen to anyone.

Feel for him. As he showed last season what he's all about when given games.

Wasn't he playing hurt for a long stretch of last season though?

He first had that hip injury that kept him out last fall. Then he had a good stretch but faded down the second half of the season due to his groin. That same injury caused him to be delayed in getting up to speed this year, and now a hammy.

Good point.

I don't think it's a injury prone thing though. Just more unlucky than anything.

Like Ndombele he just doesn’t provide enough goals or assists and we need them in this team. Dele really need to pull his finger out because he could be the man to do that as the furthest forward of the three midfielders.
