It's not as binary as that. You can be an ENIC hater who believes we're being fleased but also recognise we're not getting loads of expensive new players in January.
That’s what happens when your chairman picks a dud manager & has to sack him part way through the season. So it comes down to more awful levy decision making that has cost a year of signings by your logic. So we are playing catch up in January.
Pick a good manager at the start of the summer & he gets all summer & January to sign players. So if we say January is a bad time like you suggest. Then that’s a whole year of signings lost for the new manager as well as money on nuno.

Us having a new manager won't make opposition teams around the world any happier to sell us their players in January.
People only want to shift their deadwood at this time of year. No one, unless they're on the verge of liquidation, wants to sell an asset.

Which highlights what a huge error getting in the wrong manager in the summer was. It means you have to wait a year to get good players in.

Getting Nono was very nearly the end of ENIC. I still think they knew all along he was keeping the dugout warm, because I can't fathom how anyone at the club thought it was a good idea.

New loan regulations coming from July 1st.

  • Written agreement defining loan terms is required
  • Minimum loan duration will be the time between two registration periods
  • Maximum loan duration is 1 year
  • Sub-loaning a player, who is already on loan, to a 3rd club is now prohibited
  • Number of loans between the same clubs is limited to max of 3 in and 3 out during a season
  • New limits of the amount of loans in & out. U21s & Club-trained players are exempt
  • For domestic loans associations have 3 years to adopt their own rules that are in line with FIFA's principles
These were meant to be implemented earlier but FIFA postponed it due to COVID.
Need to ban buybacks and cap % sell on fees otherwise this is largely pointless

One swallow doesn't make a summer, still don't think he's good enough tbh. Right time and place and fresh legs.

That dying last minute turnaround is something very rare indeed for a player to experience in entire careers.
I agree. You have to look at the body of work and not one moment in time. I would like to see us hang on to him until summer and give him some more chances to see if he’s turned things around or if this was a fluke.
