Tottenham defender Serge Aurier says he feels ‘free’ after his £23m deadline day move to London and has claimed that he left Paris Saint-Germain because they didn't appreciate his ‘true worth’.

"I wanted a new life because PSG didn't respect my true worth," he said, according to The Sun. "They dwelt on other matters beside football.

"Statistically speaking, I am the most influential defender in Ligue 1 between 2013 and now. I have also won nine trophies with PSG.”

Off the pitch, however, it has been a different story.

The Ivory Coast international also made headlines following offensive comments he made over social media in the lead-up to PSG’s Champions League match with Chelsea

Aurier appeared to use homophobic language to insult then manager Laurent Blanc. He initially received an indefinite ban by the club, before returning to the side last season.

The 24-year-old was also convicted of assaulting a police officer in France last year. Aurier maintains his innocence and appealed, and the Home Office has been cleared to work in the UK.

But Aurier believes ‘too much of a fuss’ was made of the latter.

"There are more striking things about my career than what happened off the field, but this is what they preferred to linger over.

"I feel free now [having joined Tottenham]. PSG offered me a new three-year deal, but I have left them for a new adventure. I turned them down for a number of reasons. I want to discover a new way of life.

"I got on well with everyone at the club - bosses, players, coaches and fans - and the proof comes from the fact they wanted to keep me. But I had to think of myself. It is a personal decision.

"I had some business with the police that was blown up by the media in Europe. Normally when a matter goes on for a year or more they move on to something else. But in my case, there was far too much of a fuss. If I hadn't been mentally strong I would have cracked up."

If this guy is better than Walker then he should be starting over Trippier.

I guess I am skeptical until I see him perform in a Spurs shirt. This week at Everton is a great opportunity with Trips out.

God I hate that fucking tournament. Host it in the summer like everyone else. Not the fault of the players of course, they want to represent their countries, but the goddamn federations...
I think they are actually working on/strongly considering to move it to the summer time but I cannot remember where I read it

They will be hosting it in the summer going forward, which is actually fairly problematic. Large parts of Africa are ungodly hot in the summer, so it will severely limit the options for which countries can host the tournament.

Basically, CAF is going to screw over a good chunk of their members to make UEFA clubs happy. It's kind of crap, if you ask me.

...hang on, that sounds familiar... :roseunsure:

If he plays like him we're sorted.

But seriously PSG can offer high wages, I do think he moved for footballing reasons.
I'm sure they can/do pay more so it looks like he has come for the football rather than the money, & perhaps to look to rebuild his reputation. If we get the same footballer and a more likeable personality, then it's an absolute winner.

Very excited by this signing. And Sanchez actually. And Llorente ain't bad. 3rd choice goalie didn't have me leaping off my seat, giving it the fist pump, & I haven't seen anything of Foyth so am suitably unqualified to comment. But it's overall very exciting to be building on a squad that is almost there.

large swathes of sub saharan africa are in monsoon season during the european summer
the tournament also predates the concafaf gold cup & the european championships. i hate the fact its midseason, but I dont think we have the right to stamp all over it

Edit: didnt know it was moving. dont agree with it
