Ex-Spurs Player Steven Caulker

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yeah, no doubt he does but he wouldn't have said it if he was still playing for us so why say it now. Just sticking the boot in.

I imgine there is a gag order on at Tottenham's camp... clearly that doesn't apply at Cardiff. The question wasn't do you want Bale to stay at Tottenham, to which any Spurs player (except secretly any player deep in the left wing depth chart) would answer yes. At the same time if you asked any Spurs player if Bale "deserved" a move to Madrid they would probably say yes as well.

I wonder if he would've left if he knew of our situation now? He'd be guaranteed first-team alongside Dawson until Vertonghen returns, and even then would've been rotation (assuming Kaboul's injury is the worst-case scenario and he might not play again). Could've seen him playing at least 70% of games if he stayed.

Seemed really odd, he's come out and said he's hoping to go-to the WC.
imo he have more chance playing half the amount of games for us than a'll the games for Cardiff.

Agree entirely - it seems like you really need to shine outside the top 7 to attract an England spot - even then, it's normally just for a cap or two before you're sent away again.

Maybe he just wants regular football and to progress more - if so, can't blame him, but he would have had a real chance to force himself into the first XI this season.

Looks like someone failed to mention Rickie Lambert's 2012/13 season to him. You could still have a stupendous season with numbers to back it up at a bottom half club and get no notion for it whatsoever.

We were getting so close to a squad that had depth at all positions and now we need a CB and a LB and then whatever happens following the Bale saga's conclusion. Seems hard to believe we'll have the time to get that much in judging by how long our transfers normally take.

We also have barely seen a single link for any of our ample amount of deadwood to leave.

I wonder if we're looking for a versatile player who can play CB or LB, or even any defensive position. Makes sense if you want continuity in your team despite injuries and also making sure a fourth CB gets game time enough to mean they are a decent player still. Not sure who such a player might be though.

Don't blame him, really.

Came off an incredible loan season with Swansea, and whether because he wasn't rated (I'm not sure that I buy this), or because he had the misfortune of aiming for a first-team spot during a season in which a newly-hired coach was seeking stability rather than aiming to give academy products a run in the first team during a season in which we were desperately chasing a CL spot (seems obvious, in my opinion), he wasn't given the chances that he probably deserved, and became unhappy.

Makes perfect sense to me, and I don't blame him for bearing a grudge. I'm just sorry that it ended this way, I thought he had a great deal of promise.

I can't remember if I commented on this or not.... bad move IMO......there's no way we are going to go through the season without other CBs getting injured/losing form, so why are we getting rid of a good CB with the potential to be better than good? Is it only for the money?

I cant imagine it is just "for the money" on spurs's behalf when we have broken the club transfer record twice this summer making the amount we would get from his transfer comparitively insignificant. Further, Tottenham arent a "selling club" look at bale and modric, Caulker wouldnt have gone if he didnt want to. My guess is that rolling off a probably weak contract, as a youngster, he was expecting that this season he could get quite a few first team games this season wherever he was, and as no new contract had been offered by Levi to reflect his changing role/resposibilities he (or his agent) summised they could get more cash elsewhere.

shame though, i thought the guy had what it took to fill a certain hole...:ledley:

I take the fact that we sold him as a good sign - Kaboul must be really close to reaching full fitness. It would be mad by AVB to sell him otherwise.
