Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Sky Sports News are running a whole piece on exactly how many times it was chanted today and what time it started. We're down so they're giving us a good kicking on the way.

Dicks.

That twat Sky guy was talking out of his smug arse. You would have thought we were singing pro-Hitler songs the way he was going on. So tired of having to explain the context of this chant to idiots.

Sky Sports' Mark McAdam, who was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, reported afterwards: "On the field, things weren't particularly good for Tottenham, and off the field I imagine there will be a lot of senior figureheads around this football club who will once again be disappointed with the actions of a number of fans...

"Tottenham want to eradicate it from the matchday experience and I think there will be a lot of very disappointed people here. But as we know with racism, discrimination and antisemitism, it's a long ongoing fight which will take a bit of time to eradicate...

Sky Sports' Lewis Jones, also in attendance at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, added: "Despite the calls from the club for Spurs fans to stop chanting the 'Y-word' - it's not been reciprocated by the home fans.

"On at least seven occasions during the first half - whenever there was something to shout about - the word was chanted in some form, most of the noise coming from the South Stand where Tottenham were attacking that half. It was also chanted towards Ryan Sessegnon as he walked around the pitch when substituted."

".....they tried to stop us, and what did it do...
The thing I love most, is being a Jew!"

Can they stop us using the 'J' word as well????

Good point!

And here’s another thing…what if “being a Jew” was sung in Yiddish?

If my online translation is at all accurate, that’s “zeyendig a yid”…surely no-one’s going to be penalised for singing “being a Jew” in Yiddish?

Personally I’ve felt we’ve been singing the yid word a lot more this season and that it wa used a lot less today - though after the awful opening 20 minutes there was very little noise or any chants

Simple fact of the matter is, you can't police that many people.
The stewards are fucking useless. Short of having a mic and camera on every fans face in the whole stadium, there's little to nothing they can do about it.

Even more pertinent, is that if they did do something about it, the place would be empty.
Attendances are already low. Imagine banning 30+ people for singing a harmless (it's only offensive to someone who wants the be offended) song.

Fuck off Sky Sports' Mark McAdam and Lewis Jones,. Fuck off with your fucking false equivalence and fuck off with your cunting "matchday experience"

There really needs to be as many Jewish people talking about this as possible.
I want them on TV saying what they really think. Football fans. Non football fans. Young. Old. Male. Female.
It feels to me like it's almost exclusively non-Jewish people making it into an issue.
That and the odd, quite obvious Spurs-Hating Jewish person who is just being difficult to Spurs and probably couldn't care less otherwise.

fuck me! Just wrote that like your standard generic article on football racism, not the slightest hint of balace or context.

No wonder non-spurs Jewish people think we're being racist. "chanted towards Ryan Sessegnon", as if he was being insulted, no doubt him being black, certain eager beavers will jump to other conclusions too.

This is at the heart of it right now for me. It's how it's reported and positioned.

So one of the best articles I've read on the matter to date has been the joint article from Jack Pitt-Brooke and Charlie Eccleshire of The Athletic (it has been posted further back in this thread for those who don't have a sub to the athletic).

One of the key reasons why I see this as a good and well-written piece is it makes reference to Spurs fans reasons for chanting it. Very, very few if any even attempt to do this. So for the first time, I think Spurs fans could read it and not feel under threat of being accused of something they are so blatantly not. If anyone wants to engage with people don't piss them off and get them on the defensive from the outset, so this is why I openly applaud this article.

But through the entire piece, there is one glaring omission, A JEWISH SPURS FANS OPINION. Charlie Eccleshire is Jewish, he interviews other jews, he seeks the opinions of Leeds Utd Jewish supporters as an example of how inclusive these supporters feel with their club, only to have stories break within 24hrs of this piece publish that Leeds fans were arrested for being antisemitic (something that absolutely 100% has never happened to Spurs fans).

There seems a total lack of empathy towards Jewish spurs fans, how they feel, why they themselves (the majority) aren't offended by it. Absolutely NO ONE seeks to understand their POV, their view seems to be totally irrelevant.

Perhaps it's because they are a minority, perhaps no one cares about how they feel. But then hasn't that always been the case, wasn't this the case in Europe in the 1930's? Would things have been different had non-Jewish people enabled a voice of a minority? Amplifying it to the point where the voice became a majority.

Call me conspiracy theorist, but I feel like most of the news organisations writing about it know the context, but choose to omit it. Maybe to avoid the "controversy" of looking like you're excusing racism, after all THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR RACISM. Maybe they cynically believe that a story without this context will sell better.

It is clear that some/many articles were written over the last 10yrs or so fall into this category. I think also that the author/journalist can elevate their non-racist credentials to stand them in good stead.

But it's why I referenced The Athletic article, I don't think it falls into this category. It 100% gives cause for reflection for us Spurs fans, it was so well written that there were many Jewish Spurs fans conceding that perhaps they need to change. And this point still stands today, it's still relevant. Maybe Jewish Spurs fans who aren't offended by this need to stand back and reflect because maybe they have been blind to how this is viewed by other jews outside of Tottenham. I've no problem with this reflection and as a non-Jew will listen to and act with what my brother Jewish fan says (it's not about my views, it's always been about theirs).

It's just no one, absolutely no one has shown any interest in the Jewish Spurs fan. The fan that has been abused historically, the fan that still gets abused today but dose has the entire fanbase standing with them.

I want Charlie Eccleshire to educate himself more on the motives of Jewish Spurs fans, I want him to understand that if Spurs fans don't sing Yid Army what do they do when the antisemitic abuse still is aimed at our club. Whether this makes our Jewish supporters feel threatened if they feel they have been silenced. Or threatened because they no longer feel the vocal support from their fellow fan.
