Pep the luckiest manager alive, became manager at Barca at a time they have amazing players coming threw

Since then has only gone to £££ clubs

Mourinho is ahead of him, much more impressive stuff he has done

Come on, the £££ clubs thing is ridiculous.

You really think after managing arguably the greatest club side in world football, he was going to go to clubs that weren't top of the chain?

French football expert on BBC Radio 5 live

On whether Pep Guardiola over-thinks in the Champions League...

"Massively. Sometimes it works, like against Real Madrid in Spain. Great, that works. But too many times it hasn't worked.
It didn't work away against Spurs last season, it didn't work against Monaco three years ago because he messed up the second leg.
Why don't you play your normal team in a normal formation tonight against a team that is far weaker than you? Why do you need to adapt your formation to the opposition?
It just doesn't work like this. He has to take the blame. He has to take responsibility. It has happened too many times.
He has to step up and say sorry, I keep trying to come with ideas and it's just not working. If i was a City fan tonight I'd be really cross with what Pep Guardiola has done. He messed it up big time."

Any other top club would sack the manager for failing to do what he was brought in for.

And bring in who?

I guess you could say Zidane has had success winning the CL so maybe they could get him in there but anyone else they bring in would have questions about their ability to win the CL.

I think it would be interesting to see them bring in a guy who is much different from Pep like Conte or Simeone but other than that (which is hardly a guarantee of success) what are their likely options- Blanc, Allegri, Poch or a younger guy with no history of success like Ten Hag or Nagelsmann.

I like laughing at Pep, especially when he does it to himself like he did today, but I am not sure who is a better option right now for them to bring in.

You're right. He earned the right to be a cheque book manager. But ultimately he has failed to produce what his bosses employed him to do. Serially and singularly. If he wanted to hold on to the credibility he has built, he'd quit and take a Job like Ancelotti has. And look how that's panning out.

True. He has failed at getting them the Champions League.

However, his credibility doesn't change by failing to win the Champions League at a club that's never won the Champions League - that's part of his challenge.

Ancelotti has taken the Everton job (after the Napoli job) because the game of football has passed him by,
he's outdated and no top club would probably go anywhere near him.

Football evolves.

There's a reason Guardiola and Klopp are managing two of the top clubs in world football whilst managers of yesteryear are managing the likes of Spurs and Everton.

However, maybe football is starting to slowly evolve again into something different. It doesn't seem to be about pass, pass, pass anymore and it's moving more towards a powerful game of football full of counter attacks and pace - something that's caused Guardiola to come unstuck time and time again over the last few years.

It'll be interesting to see Gurdiola's next move and see if he can adapt where other top managers of the past have failed.

Mourinho is a manger of 'yesteryear'? WTF?

Mourinho is a manger of 'yesteryear'? WTF?

In the sense that a decade ago he was THE man.

Lifting the Champions League with Inter Milan off the back of numerous trophies and a 3 year spell of dominance in making Chelsea a successful English club, touted by Real Madrid etc.

He won more trophies in the year 2010 alone then he's won in the last 5 years.

To being hounded by the press for being 'outdated' and managing Tottenham Hotspur.

This was Mourinho 10 years ago.

This is him in 2020 celebrating 6th place.

Pep last won the CL almost 10 years ago. He's yesterday's man too then, no?

Frankly, the people acting like his results with United showed his quality are showing incredible disrespect for what he has accomplished in his career.

Agreed.

But I think most of those people you talk about weren't around or old enough to see the accomplishments of Mourinho from 2002 - 2010 at least - when he took control of football.

really? Ok.

He's just got 179 points out of a possible 228 points across two Premier League seasons following a record breaking 100 point season, just 2 years ago.

Whilst winning 4 other trophies in the process.

Would you say that was off his game?
