Totally agreed, thouh let’s face it Dier is simply not good enough. Hasn’t been for four years isn’t going to change now.
Romero to blame for the first goal where he goes to get Rrichies long ball but passes it straight to Joelinton who swings it out to the right and then on the cross Romero is again beaten to it by Wilson. Absolutely piss poor defending from Romero, not Dier.
the OG Dier gives away the needless free kick for a unnecessary challenge and then the free kick in Romero misses again and Dier just doesn’t react well.
Dier was poor but so was Romero.
The thing is BOTH played well!!! (Romero not so in the first half but not a peep from the haters, no some even blinded with bias that they are blaming Dier for the first goal too, just can’t wait to apportion blame but this is how they watch football anyway blame culture).

Dier has been great this season.

If a striker misses an easy shot, it's forgotten instantly but if a defender makes an error that leads to a goal, its talked about forever.
#freetheback4 :mourthumb:
Strikers have to aim at only the open part of the net , with the right amount of power, thats not being blocked by defenders/keeper while a defender can kick the ball away anywhere they like. Scoring goals is harder than defending. Thats why there are a handful of goals at max every game and while loads of tackles, and other defending actions.

Of course if a striker misses an empty net, that is also remembered for a while. We all remember how terrible Soldado was.

Dier was equally at fault for the first goal btw, his positioning was terrible, he sunk way low to the deadball line and, allowed manquillo the angle to get the ball in. He is constantly terrible at defending the front post.

He’s fallen off just as badly as Dele Alli has but because he’s got an EDL trim it’s glossed over, and he gets called a leader.

People pretended Michael Dawson was great because of aesthetics and they’re doing exactly the same with this guy.

you're delusional.

you're delusional.

I don't think Dier has been great this season but yesterday Romero was more at fault for both goals.

First one he's let Wilson come from behind him to reach a cross, he has to be getting there first. Second goal Romero should have cleared before it even reached Dier, but he missed his header. Doesn't excuse Dier not being ready to react but on both goals Romero failed to clear a cross towards the penalty spot. He's got to fix that immediately, a CB who is weak on high balls will not survive in the PL.

Dier had a great game but one mistake..,and it was bad.

I agree Romero was equally culpable for their second goal, either he or Dier could have executed better. Both missed the chance to clear.

For Newcastle first goal I don’t think either Romero or Dier could have done anything different. It was a well worked goal by Newcastle. Sometimes no one is to blame. HOWEVER on forums like this people like to blame and say “he was rubbish” etc and if you want to blame anyone it was Skipp. He saw the overlap running and could have gone to the ball carrier and told Reggie to follow the overlap. But he didn’t. He chose to spectate.

I firmly believe it was a well worked goal and no one was to blame. But if you internet warriors want to blame someone, it’s Skipp. He was passive Whereas he should have got involved when he saw the overlap.

I think he’s starting because he’s Kanes mate and a dressing room favorite/old timer. Nothing else.

It’s shameful and embarrassing how many games he gets while Rodon and Sanchez largely rot on the bench. FFS at least rotate the slot next to Romero. Our coaches are consistently, frustratingly moronic in this regard.
Sanchez tbh wouldn't be able to play LCB at all. Think Rodon has to get a chance however,.

Dier was good against City but his poor clearance did give City their main gilt edged chance.

Dier against Wolves handed Traore an easy chance to equalise and luckily for us he missed.

Dier was atrocious against Woolwich.

Dier was poor against Chelsea.

Dier scored a horrendous own goal yesterday.

Has he been better than his disgraceful performances last season? yes....but great??? dear god almighty.

Own goal aside, his defending yesterday was excellent
Watch his positioning on the Wilson goal, sinks way too low for the cross, if a ball were to come in at that angle, that should be Lloris’ responsibility (provided that there’s no runner, which there wasn’t).

Dier, like Sanchez will always give the opposition something.

He needs upgrading on urgently.
