Dier and Davies is always an accident waiting to happen. It's just a question of when..
Dier and similar shit players always benefit from not playing because they suck when out there.
The idea that he is in anyway a solution or fix to problems is ridiculous he is a problem. He needs replacing ASAP.
One thing Sanchez and Romero do that Dier will curtail is cover a ton of ground.

I'll take it, because he's genuinely been good for the bulk of this season.
But it sure is a far cry from last year when people couldn't get rid of him quick enough.
Dier has his flaws as a defender, needless to say, but there’s no leadership in defence now, no one barking orders and instructions effectively.
It's on him though. He just backs himself away from opposition attackers. I said it after the NDL earlier this season that Dier plays like he still thinks himself as midfielder that someone from behind would cover him. He's not close enough, and let attackers "pass" the ball into our net.
The back 3 benefits him because the extra defender would help close the gap he potentially creates. He is less shit than Sanchez, Davies, but still meh. Lesser evil of the three of them, so desperate time calls for desperate measure.

He could have easily gone down the Dele route after a couple of bad seasons where seemingly no one believed in him, and nothing was going his way. He was dropped from the England squad for the Euros, and was frequently conceding some silly own goal or unfair/clumsy penalty.
He's done well to brush off all that and make the most of his very limited skillset as a footballer. Especially impressive that he's able to lead the defence, despite only just securing his own place as starting CB.
I really hope his form this season wasn't just a false dawn.
6 conceded in 9 league games with him under Conte. 7 conceded in 3 without him.

Those stats tell us nothing. He is a shit player, always has been a shit player. There is a reason why when he is out people start hyping him up and then when he gets back the morons have to pipe down because he sucks.
Like many of the crap on our team looks so much better when not playing than when on the pitch.
If people , especially the ones in charge, try to hold on to our crap players like Dier, Davies, Winks etc, nothing will change. These cunts are done at this level but many seem obsessed with trying to keep these fools. In the end if Conte sticks to these guys, he will get what he deserves.
