Poch chose Lo Celso in 2019 for £42m ( £15m loan fee and £27m purchase fee) when in at the same time Brighton bought the younger Alexis MacAllister for 7m.

Ouch the difference hurts. And only one of them looks to be a PL player
Hindsight is 20/20. If we had battled Brighton for MacAllister everyone would have said we had no ambition. At the time GLC looked to be a good buy and most people on this board were excited for it

Sure to some degree its a moot point, but in other ways, though very difficult to predict, these are not random throws of the dice.

At the time there were at least some of us warning that Lo Celso was a redundant buy at CAM, that he was too small and not of the style to play CM, and that he would not be a success for us there in the prem- and we turned out to be right.

Brighton had by that time apparently learned how to spend 7m better than we how to spend 42m- the equivalent of 6 tries for a MacAllister. Its definitely worth it for the club to reflect on why that is, and see if they can improve.

Yeah, but if Lo Celso had been fit he would have started every game and MacAllister would only have got scraps...he's a bit like Hurst, got all the glory because Greaves was injured for the final...

Yes and there's every chance Lo Celso would've played in the World Cup including the final...if he wasn't injured as usual... and therein lies the main problem with him.

Lo Celso was a typical Levy signing. We were being linked with Bruno Fernandes but Levy went for a cheaper version in GLC.

Still injured. Hasn't played since October.

Lo Celso is in his second season on-loan at Villarreal after struggling to make an impact at Tottenham.

He initially joined the club in January this year, before his loan was extended for this season

yup, I for one was glad we finally got it over the line. Not because I had seen and knew anything of the player but because he was our long-term target and a player the manager wanted. At the time the transfer fee was big so I assumed it was going to be a great signing.
