It's odd isn't it?

People want us to be a big club, compete for honours consistently, buy the best players yet scoff at the idea of getting a shit load of money.

Same people who moan that Nike (who will likely be paying us a SHIT load of money) will be making our kits because they happen to dislike the colour of some stitching.

Dislike of certain state sponsorship and moral objections against regimes which, on every level, lack credibility and basic humanity, is not the same as how a kit is produced.

Qatar is governed on the basis of Sharia law, every time you see the name, every time you see the logo, it’s telling you something you should be very concerned about, something that is well above sport.

But hey money can clean away anything. Just ask Chelsea. Personally speaking I’d rather not have that crap connected to my football club, my community nor my country.

Who's God?

Why? our 'moral outrage' won't impact on them ... we allow people of any race, religion, and political belief into the ground ... we have players and managers with some very odd 'beliefs' ... we have owners and shareholders who have some extremely questionable ideas ...

We are a sports business not a protector of the world's moral values ...

If Qatar Airways as part of 'handing over a huge amount of money' also require us to support their political or religious beliefs ... then that's indeed unacceptable ... but they won't ....

Don't see Woolwich worshiping their 'hereditary absolute monarchies' 'permitting floggings' 'following sharia law' or indeed all turning 'muslim' .... and yet they take the UAE money

Sport and Politics shouldn't mix ... but Sport and bucket loads of cash ... that works fine ....

It’s exactly this view that’s made the world a worse off place.

The World's worse off because Woolwich, City, Barca, and a whole host more have taken Middle East sponsors money? The same Middle East money that sponsors dozens of hospital wards and specialist treatment centres .... guess they've made the world a far worse place as well ... or is it just football? ... stick with the sanctimonious bollocks if it makes you feel good ... but don't pretend sponsoring football is the root of all evil, try Blair, Bush and the warmongers for that ....

Overnight hey added more of the veil to take it just over the centre of the main West Entrance.

Really starting to take shape now - and doesn't it look gorgeous as the veil sweeps up and down !

This site has more and more of these type of posts - nothing wrong with a cunt-off it's the internet who cares - but when your point is challenged with a contrary argument, rather than justify why "football sponsorship by the Middle East has made the world a worse place" you just troll out a few insults ... what's the point?

Two of the ventilation shafts on the Southern podium are starting to have their cladding attached.....another non essential task brought forward to take advantage of the 'critical safety systems' delay.

Surveys have shown that Woolwich have almost as many Jewish supporters as Spurs.

Ehmm. Emirates
Reputation is far more importantly than reality here. We are the club with a Jewish history, we're the Yids. I'm not sure it would stop a deal - they'll be after international exposure to people who probably don't know much about that background - but it's much more likely to be an issue than Woolwich having a few Jewish supporters is to them.

Just to put something straight there, Qatar is not an Islamic country. It's an autocratic regime, that pick and chooses Islamic laws and is inconsistent in how it applies them. It ruins the reputation for true Islamic countries.
Also, don't let Shari'ah law be a byword for anti LGBT anti women policies by itself, it's an overall code including food, tax, charity, marriage etc. If you don't like the other stuff like dress code, well it's cultural difference. As for the penal code, well see above re. Misapplication and unfair trial system

Ah well, being so homophobic you kill gay people and so sexist you have a legal system that says women's evidence isn't reliable and don't allow them any agency seperate from their husbands, is all okay as long as it's accompanied with a nice dress code and you give some money to charity. Makes sense :)

Quite a few surveys have been done and Spurs supporters are less than 10% Jewish - typically surveys come up with say 8% with Woolwich maybe 1% less. So to most they have equal Jewish support, and in the big picture its not a factor at all to any but the most extremist Islamist or most Jewish of Jews.

About the only distinguishing 'Jewishness' between the two clubs is that Spurs recent owners (Levy. Sugar, Scholar,) have been Jewish. But all of them have been businessmen who are perfectly happy to do business with anyone if it suitsw them (and not with Jewish people if it doesn't suit, hence not doing business with Abramovitch)

So if its an Arabic company doing business internationally - and offering the most £'s - Spurs will do business !

I guess the obvious counter argument is that these states - through their sovereign wealth funds and enterprises - are trying to legitimatise their regimes through these sponsorships and donations. But to counter that counter I think it’s hypocritical to single out these Islamic states as being the only ones with blood on n their hands (so to speak) and far more “blood” has been shed in the name of western corporate shareholders dividends.

As far as Qatar goes, from the bits and pieces I’ve read over the years, I find their domestic and foreign policy, whilst a shitload from ideal (whatever that could mean), at least a tad more enlightened than the Saudis (and their stooges the UAE, Bahrain etc). Theyve been prepared to mediate between Islamic factions, mediate with Israel and Arab factions, have set up AlJazera, to give Arabic issues an alternate voice and perspective.

I’m not an apologist for the shitty things they have done - but they are hardly unique in world politics, and far from the worst offenders.

Joe Lewis made his fortune by shafting the pound, with scant disregard for the effect this could have on the British economy and average British schmuck.

I don't doubt this in any way but I've never seen any of these surveys that also keep getting mentioned.

The last one I saw was maybe 10 years + ago.

Its part of folklore (which may or not be true) that there was quite an influx of Jews from eastern Europe/Russia at the end of the 19th century/start of the 20th century many of whom settled in the east end of London and what better way to assimilate than start to support football teams - so Spurs, Woolwich and West Ham have/had a higher % of supporters who were Jewish than the average in the UK population. But at no time has a majority of supporters of any team been Jewish !

So going back to the main part of the conversation, Spurs will do business with any international type business engaged in a respectable business if the money is right. And equally said business will not be put off from dealing with Spurs because our Chairman is Jewish or a % of fans are Jewish.
