It's down to confidence. He started out fine, then gave the ball away once and went to pieces afterwards, making more and more mistakes as he tried to make up for it. Lamela's issue isn't being shit or not trying hard enough, it's trying too hard.
To be fair, he was fucking everywhere today. He was going everywhere on the move and passing is harder playing that one touch and go style. It's harder than Hudd or Bentley trap and pass as you give yourself more time at the cost of being predictable. His passing was poor but Spurs are always spoiled and freak out if someone misses lots of passes on one game.
Bentaleb has been doing the same thing. Poch is trying to do a lot more crafty passing. You saw Alli do it multiple times in the box (I think one resulted in an assist to Son).
Carroll was also doing it. He was a classic Hudd style passer but he was releasing much faster on the move and his passing was going off target too.
There is more to our passing looking bad than meets the eye. It's nailed on coached and a change of....I don't want to say it....

Even though they were a rubbish opposition we still had to come from behind and really optimistic that this group will continue to gel well in future! Had to give it to Lamela tonight, even though he had a bit of a mare he kept plugging away. Instead of hiding from it he kept demanding the ball, even if most of the time he was passing it to the opposition. I can't work out if it actually is a confidence issue or whether he's just really shit and is living in denial....took his goal well though.
