Today (with Skipp starting his first PL game of the season having played 120m wed, Bergwyn, Lamela and Alli)

Ndombele in 45 minutes - 40 touches - 32 passes - 84%

Burnley home (with Dier next to him, Kane, Son, Alli and Moura)

Sissoko in 92 minutes - 42 touches - 32 passes - 81%

One of these players clearly not trying to link the play enough.
Burnley's pressing structure this evening was such that Ndombele and Skipp were boxed in by Burnley's front 2 and their 2 CMs.

Chelsea did the same thing to Ndombele and Winks a few weeks back.

Very difficult for the CBs to pass to them.

Too many casual ball watchers and not enough hard work in tracking back and responsibility in tracking runners. Jose of old would never stand for players that don't work going the other way.

Had two either side of them as well. Alli, Lamela & Bergwijn were constantly pissing away possession. Even MOTD just called Mourinho's singling out of Ndombele as bollocks, said there were many others who didn't offer much, highlighted Lamela just letting people run off him.

What the fuck was Dier doing with that header as well - why the fuck didn't he head it out to the flanks, just headed it straight down the middle to their guy.

I don’t think I said that it was

That first half was abysmal and none of our players credited themselves but to continually turn up for our team overweight and to subsequently not put the effort in is unacceptable regardless of how much he cost
But why pick him then? You see him every day on the training ground, surely you can fathom his physical state from that?

In basic terms, Mourinho's 5 fucking CB's in a line first half, basically meant it was 5 v 8 ahead of them. Or 4 v 8 if you consider Alli and Lamela are like half each.

Ndombele gets picked for the same reason as Soldado did. Levy is in the manager's ear'ole.
The difference between watching Nd and GLC was like night and day.

I find it very strange to single out Ndombele for the first half performance, the tactics and shape were shit. He actually did fairly well and was progressive when the ball came to him.

It wasn't the tactic, for the 1st half display, all Jose done was a slight change to the back line, and in the midfield change the personnel.
Jose replaced Ndombele and skipp with Le Celso and Dier in the second half and put Moura upfront. All 3 of those players worked their socks off after playing 2 hours midweek.

With that change we gained control because we had Lo Celso taking the ball under pressure and using it well, plus putting in a shift, thus taking some of the pressure off our defence. Ndombele did none of that really, and it exposed Skipp who was chasing around trying to plug gaps.

Ndombele strolling around, not showing for the ball and making a few neat touches isn’t what he was there for. Take note of Lo Celso’s role in the second half for what he was supposed to do.

Typical Maureen deflection strategy from the first half performance which he setup the team for To play. Never his fault. Why didn’t he take off Lloris or anyone of the back 5 they were just as bad. Skipp hardly touched the ball. Was tangay meant to do it all on his own? Gio played great but he had dier along side him plus Lucas for added pace. Don’t fall his propogamda. Just look back at the posts during the first half how many were actually calling out ndombele? Most wete for dier Ali Lloris. He just changes the agenda. Shows real class. What impact would this have on his team mates especially people like sissoko who has taken him under his wing. Maureen will lose the dressing room creating a spirit that is not harmonious and he has history on this.
Sure if he thinks his played bad rip into him In the dressing room. Fergie would not have done that in public he would always defend his players . Maureen could have been more diplomatic like saying no one was playing to expected levels and system wasn’t working. But no he lays into one player and basically all post match discussion is about that than one of the worst half’s of football served up by the team which he was responsible for. Would klopp pep or any other top manager do this to one of their own players. His just creating a toxic vibe around the club and dividing the fans.
Mourinho is the master of diversion tactics like this.

But fans who religiously follow the clubs he has been at aren't easily fooled by it. See my comment about his setup earlier and other posts from people in this thread calling out his tactics.

The point though is that the media fall head over heels for it. He's an egocentric.

Hopefully someone in the post match conference has the guts to call out his setup and mentality before going into the game.

Jose explained it in the post match interview. He said in the first half the midfield was not linking play, not pressing and not winning duels. He said he had no criticism of Skipp and called out Ndombele by name.
He's not wrong there. The midfield was the issue.

But it was his fault in the first place. Its not a personnel issue. He keeps playing Winks in there by himself and it hasn't worked because he's always outnumbered in there. This time it was skipp. He wanted Ndombele to be next to him as a DM, but for some reason he can't see the Ndombele doesn't have the instinct or responsibility to play as DM. Why can't JM or any of the coaches see this? - it may be that tanguy tells JM straight up that DM isn't for him. That'll take some serious balls though.

2nd half was better because we had 2 DMs and 1 AM. He could have played Dier and Skipp with GLC or Ndombele ahead and it would have worked. Just the change in shape was required and could have been done in the first half. Mourinho didn't have to wait till half time to change it. Essentially wasted 35 minutes of game time after they scored.

Just watched their goal. Sanchez fails to stop the cross and Skipp was ball watching. But Hugo should hold on to that ball.
Our goalkeepers must have cost us a good ten points this season

Mistakes every other week from Lloris and Gazzaniga

And the one time vorm plays he single handedly bundled us out of the FA cup

...you could start 100 CBs and still lose - the key is winning the MF battle...
...GLC has upped his game since his tentative debut - Tanguy has become a fat turd...
...Dier is returning to his peak form...Winks and Skipp will never pass muster - sorry...
COYS

also think that Dele dropped back a bit in second half instead of being played as a CF,
Dele is not a CF and never will be, he can't win or hold the ball up he is a good second striker

The setup in the 1st half was predictably an absolute disaster.

- 5 centre backs all just stood assuming each other would deal with any danger.
- the out of position full/wingbacks not having the physical attributes to play the position and join attacks.
- a 2 man midfield against their 4 consisting of a rookie and an out of form and unfit player who needs protection to be effective.
- 3 forwards all playing through the middle of a highly organized opponent.
- our attacks were a 3-4 vs 6-7 battle and theirs were the opposite.
